Joe Satriani
Biography
Famous virtuoso guitarist Joe Satriani was born in the middle of twentieth century in New York state. He has been familiar with the music since the age of nine, when he started playing the drums. It was going pretty well, however Joe felt that he could not fulfill his potential completely. Thus, he took a little pause, after which Satriani made the decision that predetermined all his future life. Joe chose the guitar and, inspired by Jimi Hendrix’ play and Led Zeppelin’s music, he began studying the new instrument.
In the middle school Satriani studied musical theory and mastered the guitar in practically no time. At this time Joe started giving the lessons, and during the whole career he shared the knowledge and experience with such famous musicians as Steve Vai, Kirk Hammett from Metallica and others. By the age of sixteen Satriani was a constant participant of various concerts. As he stated, it was the real “clash of worlds”, because after rock-week-ends he had to go back to school. However, it helped the musician to understand that the guitar allowed him to express himself in a full volume; thereby he continued to improve his skills.
Release of Joe’s debut long play titled Not Of This Earth took place in 1986. The record immediately attracted music lovers’ attention, who enjoyed bright compositions and were fascinated by Satriani’s play. Thus, the composition The Headless Horseman is performed by mans of two-handed tapping technique. A year later Joe issued his second studio attempt Surfing With The Alien (1987) that was certified Platinum. It was the album that included the song Always With Me, Always With You, which is so much loved by the fans and that became on of the maestro’s most recognizable creations. Again, the two-handed tapping technique was used in another hit Midnight that demonstrated Satriani’s incredible play.
The variety of maestro’s songs is definitely worth mentioning. Joe performs fast and dynamic compositions, such as Satch Boogie, and slower melodic songs, like Tears In The Rain. The music is a way of self-expression, and Satriani gives us the whole kaleidoscope of emotions, experiences and feelings, from joy to sadness. There is no doubt that every person will find something close and interesting for himself in Satriani’s creativity, something that will be able to express this or that mood.
In spite of a great number of hits and amazing albums, the legendary virtuoso is still full of ideas. Thus, Joe’s fourteenth studio album entitled Black Swans And Wormhole Wizards was released in 2010. Traditionally strong long play was enjoyed by numerous lovers of great sound, and the incredible guitar skills are as impressive as before. Satriani is considered to be on the world’s best guitarists; thus, bright and recognizable compositions of Black Swans And Wormhole Wizards prove his status perfectly.
