Dolly Parton
Biography
American actress and singer Dolly Parton is extremely popular in her country. She got her honorable title “Queen of country music” for a good reason indeed – the warm music of southern states became Parton’s best recognizable landmark. The performer got the music lovers’ recognition and also she became the very embodiment of that musical genre. Her compositions and albums got to the top of various charts a great number of times, which became another proof of the fact that Dolly’s creativity is truly loved.
Dolly Parton was born in Tennessee, in a large family: Dolly’s parents had twelve kids. The family was really poor; however young Parton was so much in love with music that absolutely nothing could stop her from reaching her dream. In late fifties Dolly won a competition of young Tennessee vocalists, so she made a choice to move on. A bit later Parton met a special person, and that meeting proved to be very important to her and her future itself: the famous country-singer Johnny Cash told Dolly not to give up and to keep on doing what she really enjoyed and what made her happy. Thus, by 1967 the performer prepared her debut album Hello, I'm Dolly. The artist was noticed immediately, but the major success came to her a bit later.
The release of a record Coat Of Many Colors took place in 1971 and this work is considered to be one of the strongest country albums of all times. Dolly’s soprano and her sincerity simply conquered the listeners’ hearts. Soon the singer issued Jolene (1974), which included the hit eponymous composition. According to respected Rolling Stone’s opinion Jolene became Parton’s best song. Nevertheless Dolly’s interests have always extended beyond the country music only: in the second part of seventies she was taken rather as pop-singer, but it did not affect the number of her fans at all. Moreover, the movie «Nine to Five» appeared in 1980, and one of the main roles was played by Dolly Parton. The artist managed to cope with that in such a brilliant way that she was nominated in two categories of Golden Globe Award.
In late eighties Dolly Parton came back to the country music: together with Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris she released the album Trio, which was critically acclaimed. It is worth mentioning that social life has always been close and important to Dolly: she always took an active part in charity campaigns. Then, in 1996 she even established her own fund Dollywood Foundation, which aim was to help children. However Parton never forgot about the music. Thus, her forty first (!) studio album titled Better Day saw the light in 2011. Well, this is exactly the case when the quality of a record is just unquestionable: traditionally high level of performance and pleasure from listening are guaranteed.
