Biography

The legendary American musician Quincy Jones was born in 1993 in Chicago. In his childhood Jones understood that he would like to give of himself to the music, so he started learning the art of trumpet playing. Quincy won the scholarship in the prestigious Berklee College of Music; however he left it when he was invited to join Lionel Hampton in tour as the trumpeter. That was the beginning of Jones’ musical career, and he managed to earn the well-deserved reputation of the talented musician and a successful producer as well.

In fifties Quincy toured a lot in Europe, playing with various jazz orchestras. His concerts were always accompanied by full houses: listeners were glad to come and enjoy Jones’ delicate arrangements. Quincy released the record This Is How I Feel About Jazz in 1957 and that creation was appreciated both by the competent experts and jazz lovers. It is worth mentioning that Jones acted as a conductor and an arranger while recording that album. It goes without saying that his talent was noticed in practically no time: in sixties Quincy collaborated with such famous musicians as Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan and many others.

The arranger never limited himself by the borders of any genres; thereby in 1962 he issued an incredible album Big Band Bossa Nova, including the well-known composition Soul Bossa Nova. Moreover, at this period the musician wrote Mellow Madness, Girl, Smackwater Jack And Ndeda and other songs that later became classical. During the whole career Quincy pleased his listeners with new hits, albums and interesting joint projects with various performers. In late seventies Jones became the producer of king of pop Michael Jackson and their very first work Off The Wall (1979) turned out to be a world hit. It was followed by even more successful record Thriller (1982), which is still the title-holder of the world’s best-selling album. Since its release more than 110 millions of copies were sold.

In spite of the long and incredibly fruitful career the maestro still has plenty of fresh ideas. Thus in 2010 Jones’ discography was enlarged by the traditionally strong album Q Soul Bossa Nostra, which title resonates with Soul Bossa Nova (1962). Quincy worked as the executive producer, while such diverse performers as Amy Winehouse, T-Pain, Usher and many others took part in the creation of that record. Every artist chose Jones’ song that was closer to him, so the final result proved to be very harmonious. The quality of Q Soul Bossa Nostra is simply unquestionable: the musician’s experience is self-explanatory indeed. If you are just going to enjoy the atmosphere of Quincy’s art, you may choose any of his albums. Of course they are all different, but all of them were recorded with soul and in the highest level.
