Studio Album by Pimp C released in 2006Pimpalation review
Pimp C’s second album full of energy and love for life and freedom
Chad Butler was born in 1973 in Port Arthur, Texas, USA and is known as Pimp C, one of the members of Underground Kings – U.G.K. – project where he works with another famous rapper Bun B. By his age of 33 Pimp C has seen a lot. In the year 2000 he was given community service for aggravated assault but failed to fulfill it and in 2002 got sentenced to prison. His mate Bun B proved to be a real friend to the unfortunate rapper and demanded to free Pimp C in almost each of his songs. In the last March he managed to release an album consisting of Pimp C’s previously written songs The Sweet James Jones Stories with the support of Rap-A-Lot Records. Pimp C returned from prison on 30 December 2005 however that was not the end of his bad luck – in April the rapper got into hospital having been involved in a car accident. Fortunately his injures were minor and he got well soon. All this explains why Pimp C’s second work Pimpilation is so full of energy and love for life and freedom. Pimp C has recorded 80 percent of the new album collaborating with various rappers: Jazee Pha, Mike Jones, Slim Thug, Scarface, Jody Breeze, Devin The Dude, Jagged Edge, Paul Wall, and of course Bun B – which makes the album especially interesting.
Pimpilation is a top quality rap record
The variety of performers on the album is really surprising. The opening short intro is followed by I'm Free, which is the only song on without any guest appearances. It is based on Tom Petty's old work Free Falling and sounds very melodious. Knockin’ Doors Down performed by Pimp C, P.O.P and Lil' Keke is a powerful track with incredible beats and on Rock 4 Rock we easily recognize Bun B’s loud raping greatly combining with Pimp C featuring Scarface. The beat here has the sounds of church organ and elements of electric guitar, which makes the song a really hard one. Pourin Up has all the chances to become this summer hit for the catchy melody and a powerful sound. Mike Jones & Bun B back up Pimp C on it. Probably the most outstanding and unusual track on the album is Havin Thangs 06 performed with Big Mike. This song fascinates by its hardness and power. Overstand Me is a track full of self respect and confidence with Trae & Chamillionaire joining Pimp C. The next after it On Your Mind featuring Jagged Edge, Big Zak Ali and Gipp is a little more joyful than other tracks concerning the beats and the following remixes confirm the first impression and give an opportunity to listen to your already favorite songs once more. Pimpilation is a top quality rap record, best to refine any collection.
Pimp C is an inherent part of the rap culture
As a true rapper Pimp C has a tough character, which sometimes does not let him stay out of troubles. The album has been long expected and finally the fans have got what they really wanted – a powerful, artful and musically various record. It is worth mentioning that Pimpilation is a soundtrack to a DVD about Pimp C with his interviews, news reports and his work on the album in the studio. The rapper has had tough times during the last several years and now they are most probably over. Due to the experience he has acquired Pimp C realizes how precious life is and his new album is a good illustration to that. However he is decisively going to forget about the past and to get to work using the stored energy. Now he undoubtedly strives for taking it all from life and the basic themes of his songs on Pimpilation are connected with this feeling. For the melodious voice and a unique rapping manner many other hip-hop icons invite him to feature their songs as well as he has done on the new album. This is a new growing tendency among rappers today – remember Busta Rhymes’ last work for example. Pimp C is an inherent part of the rap culture, and now that he is back in the game we can enjoy Pimpilation and soon expect his further creations follow it.
