Best Night of My Life review

Jamie Foxx can be brilliant both alone and as part of a team

Actor, comedian and singer Jamie Foxx has recently celebrated his forty-third birthday and added a new album, Best Night Of My Life, to his discography which has become the artist’s fourth studio creation. It goes without saying that his active work on the radio, in cinema and on stage demands a lot of time, and it is not easy for Foxx to concentrate his attention on something concrete. Yet he has been pleasing the audience with hits, and the last two albums, the 2005’s Unpredictable and the 2008’s Intuition have earned him a name in the music culture. He has worked with well-known hip-hop and R&B producers, recorded collaborations always keeping up with the times as he is acquainted with those who can help him create a contemporary and asked-for sound. The same thing happened while preparing his new work Best Night Of My Life. As before, the artist has tried to keep the balance between solo tracks and collaborations and to prove that he can be brilliant both alone and as part of a team. Though many will think that Jamie Foxx sounds a bit tired on his fourth work, there are really interesting and successful songs on Best Night Of My Life which do nothing but please.

Sincere emotions and soulful tunes on Best Night Of My Life

Perhaps some time later Jamie Foxx will look at the disc Best Night Of My Life as at the symbol of a transition stage in his music searching. On the one hand these tracks are carried out in the best R&B traditions, the production is practically brought to perfection and the beats are full of energy. On the other hand, the very record’s atmosphere lacks coherence, the fillers seem unnecessary, and it is only the stronger tracks that compensate the weaker sides. The beginning is very inspiring – with some strokes the introduction This Will Be demonstrates high notes in Foxx’ vocals, samples interlacement with orchestra elements promising something delicious to follow. The title track conquers with rapping by Wiz Khalifa, a contagious beat and an optimistic, major tune mood. Jamie’s nice vocals throughout the album render sincere emotions which are mostly love, tenderness and sensuality. Rick Ross whose name lately can be found on many a play-list adds some boldness to Living Better Now, built on a dropping sample. The first single Winner featuring Justin Timberlake (whom they call J.T. on the track) and T.I. proves to be one of the most powerful compositions on the record. Each artist carries his part perfectly, and it is a highlight on the whole though not the most melodious one. The best song on the album’s first part, however, is the slow and very atmospheric Fall For Your Type featuring Drake. This part ends with the song Gorgeous which could well be a single – it is a wonderfully sensual anthem to female beauty on which one can make sure that Jamie’s vocal skills are still at a high level. Another composition which does the singer credit is the amazingly soulful Rejoice awarding the listener for one’s tolerance when listening to the weaker tracks.

The artist has not lost his talent

On the whole, some filler and several potential hits is a classic recipe of a music album made by an artist whose name is well-known in the world for a long time. As an artist Jamie Foxx does not need to prove anything to anybody or strive for conquering new fans. His fans know well what he is capable of, and there are enough moments on Best Night Of My Life to prove that the artist has not lost his talent. The other question is that the two previous albums offered a little bit more of such moments. Nevertheless, it is worth while listening to each of the fifteen tracks on Best Night Of My Life, including the danceable bonus Sex On The Beach, different from everything Jamie Foxx has ever performed, to find the best of the best. The good news is that the failure tracks, of which there is one or two here, do not last that long, and the lengthiest one, over five minutes, is the sensual Gorgeous, for which each female listener is going to say ‘thank you’ to Jamie Foxx. Hopefully the artist’s next work will be more integral and give us no less great songs than his music career’s quite an adequate continuation Best Night Of My Life.
