Heart On

The deceptive title Eagles Of Death Metal
In spite of its title - Eagles Of Death Metal - this American band does not play death metal. The band was formed in 1998 by two friends and musicians Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme, the founder and constant leader of the hard rock collective Queens Of The Stone Age. The title of this project, at first planned as a joke, the artists invented when they decided to create music, mixing death metal and something sounding like The Eagles band (later, the artists started playing the combination of blues-rock, garage rock and hard rock in the spirits of 70s). This explosive mixture was spiced up by humorous texts and it became the filling of the disc Peace Love Death Metal in 2004. The creation of the disc took so much time, because Homme had to spend the majority of his attention to his band Queens Of The Stone Age, which got the unexpected popularity soon after its formation. However, as the artist stated in the interview, Eagles Of Death Metal is also of great importance for him. After the release of Peace Love Death Metal, the command caught the attention of the public. The tracks of the album could be heard in several advertisements and in the film Thank You For Smoking. In 2006, Homme and Hughes recorded the second disc by Eagles Of Death Metal, Death By Sexy, and moved on a tour along with The Strokes. They also toured with The Giraffes, Peaches and Guns N' Roses. After such an overwhelming success, the musicians just could not avoid recording the new disc. In 2008, the album Heart On enlarged their discography.
Heart On: the collection of the infectious rock tracks
It is worth mentioning, although obvious that the playing style of Eagles Of Death Metal has changed since their debut for good. The monotonous guitar riffs were substituted by catchy rock motifs. The long-play opens with the excellent pop rock track Anything 'Cept The Truth, while the memorable melody of Wannabe In L.A. sends us back to the previous attempt of the collective, Death By Sexy. The track with the hard guitar riffs (I Used To Couldn't Dance) Tight Pants, ideally fitting for the party all-night-long soundtrack, can be called one of the strongest places on the album. The main advantage of this song is its humorous lyrics. The slow sexual track High Voltage will strike you with its boogie element, while the sparkling balladry composition Now I'm A Fool will surely demonstrate to the public one of the most unforgettable instrumental jams of the years. The inspiring track Heart On gave the title to the album. The minor tune How Can A Man With So Many Friends Feel So Alone narrates a story of relations, which did not yield, friends that were lost and how a man finally feels lonely in this world. The same sorrowful feeling of loneliness and its consequences is described in the track Solo Flights. The disc finishes with the low tempo and over-free, but self-ionizing, calling of a lonely, but ready for relations, man for the fair sex - I'm Your Torpedo.
Better with each album
Since the moment of the Eagles Of Death Metal foundation, ten years have passed. It is a long period for the band - although some rock bands manage to record amazing works after twenty and thirty years of their activity. In spite of the fact, that during this decade the artists created only three full-lengths, one should notice that each disc was better than its predecessor was. Who could predict that this joking project by Homme and Hughes, making a parody of the music of 70s, would become something serious? No one, but the success of Eagles Of Death Metal proves one more time that in the hands of a talented person each business becomes fruitful, the matter depends only on the hard work and understanding of the wanted result. It is also worth mentioning that the previous releases by Eagles Of Death Metal were more playful than Heart On. However, if one looks deeper, one would realize - the seriousness of this disc added it maturity, demonstrated by the musicians on an excellent brand new disc. As for the music, the artists have the same 70s in their yards, but the album Heart On drastically differs with its catchy melodies both from the monotonous debut Peace Love Death Metal and more vivid disc Death By Sexy. All in all, the duet Eagles Of Death Metal recorded an astonishing album, which is sure to be remembered by the listeners for a pretty period of time.
