Slipstream review

Bonnie Raitt’s unrivaled talent

Reputation of Bonnie Raitt is the object of envy of many performers, and that is quite obvious. Raitt is a winner of nine Grammy Awards, and at the same time she manages to lead active political and citizen life. The singer is a supporter of environment protection; she also supports the refusal from potentially dangerous nuclear power plants building. However all the beliefs and political activity do not interfere with her musical self-expression – the artist has always been and she still remains one of the most notable personalities on the United States rock-stage. In different years Raitt got nine prestigious Grammy Awards, and also, which is highly important as well (or maybe it is even more important), she was honored to be included to the halls of fame of rock’n’roll and blues. Bonnie Raitt issued a great number of singles and compilation albums, which had found their well-deserved places in music lovers’ collections all over the world. Records from the inimitable Raitt also did not stale on the shops’ shelves – that bright artist always had a lot of faithful fans. Probably, the best time for Bonnie’s studio works was a hefty period from the late eighties till the very new century. In 2005 the long play Souls Alike saw the light, after which the singer needed seven years to prepare the fresh record. Finally the release of the long-awaited Slipstream took place, and connoisseurs of Raitt’s art are looking forward to get to know the new creation.

Slipstream: new classics

Raitt had been recording Slipstream for seven years, but the long awaiting is completely justified, as soon as the artist had never strived to release raw and imperfect works. The very first composition of the new album called Used To Rule The World lets us all know that the studio work was simply huge. The sound is amazing, just as it was expected, but also it is fresh and not limited by borders of classic rock or any other genre. For example, the song Right Down The Line will please listeners with the downbeat and Jamaican mood, which is incredibly distant from canons of blues, which is so much loved by Bonnie. However the following composition, Million Miles, will bring music lovers back to the south of the USA, to dusty roads and bars, where the good old blues used to sound and it still does. Thereby even the first three songs differ from each other – every single one has its own unique mood. Of course that studio attempt could not be full without beautiful ballads, such as You Can’t Fail Me Now. Probably this song can be called an excellent example of traditional rock sound: soft bass, bright guitars and melodiousness vocal part, supported by interesting lyrics. Sure thing that Raitt has something to tell to her listeners, and she enjoys that process of sharing her thoughts and experiences. No wonder that Bonnie’s creativity has always been in the spotlight of many connoisseurs of genre.

One hour of good music

The long-awaited Slipstream completely satisfied expectations of music lovers, who were eager to get high-quality creativity. Rock and blues once again got mixed and interweaved within Bonnie Raitt’s compositions. Well, she knows like no one else what kind of magic these fundamental musical directions can spell. Raitt’s experience lets her feel perfectly the right proportions of this or that genre that are necessary for creation the most successful and fascinating cocktail. Slipstream is not an exception in the aspect of quality or signature material presentation – twelve compositions with the total length of almost an hour flow smoothly and literally in one breath. The album’s tempo feels just ideal, with fast and slow songs that change each other nicely. In fact, it does not even matter what mood you have, when you begin listening to Slipstream, as soon as it will not be a problem to find a song that could become your own personal soundtrack. Bonnie Raitt got her awards for good reasons indeed, while many performers could only dream about becoming a part of hall of fame of rock’n’roll and blues. Inimitable Raitt managed to be successful in ever sphere, and Slipstream is another proof of the well-known fact that the artist is still full of new ideas and she keeps on skillfully embodying them.
