Life In A Beautiful Light review

Macdonald’s signature style is a basis of her self-containment

In 2007 the world music stage welcomed a new promising performer – Amy Macdonald. Back then not too many people knew her; however that situation changed pretty quickly, as soon as compositions of that young artist proved to be really amazing. That beautiful combination of soft rock and folk-music was highly enjoyed by music lovers, while experts were astonished by such an unexpected appearance of new bright artist. No wonder that they totally acclaimed This Is The Life, the singer’s debut work. It often happens that after releasing a great first album, the performer faces a serious responsibility – he or she must not disappoint listeners. Well, if the first long play proved to be successful, that means that the second one should be not less fascinating. Listeners’ expectations were completely satisfied in 2010, when A Curious Thing saw the light. That studio attempt turned out to be a good development of Amy’s debut work. Folk motives, skillfully intertwined to rock entourage, found its audience in no time. All in all that was not a surprise, because Amy’s songs always bring a good amount of emotions. The singer puts her emotions and feelings into her creativity, and this is not a secret that without them any sequence of notes cannot become a real song. In summer of 2012 Macdonald enlarged her discography with a fresh record with a light and life-asserting title Life in a Beautiful Light.

Cozy atmosphere of Life in a Beautiful Light

Listeners have been eager to get new songs from Amy Macdonald, because her creations are always original and it is really easy to recognize the artist’s signature style. Thus, Life in a Beautiful Light starts in a vivid way, with fast and major song called 4th Of July. It certainly does create an excellent mood for the entire album. This one is followed by a composition Pride, which energy is not less fascinating that its predecessor’s. Warm sound and pleasant and easy to listen arrangements give Amy’s vocals vast and freedom. That song will please lovers of folk music, while its chorus will be well remembered from the very first time. Number three is taken by a track Slow It Down – the main role here is played by Amy’s voice. Macdonald deserved the right to be considered an amazing performer, and Slow It Down proves it just fine. Make sure to pay attention to a very beautiful song Across The Nile. Its music and arrangements are of the highest quality, as usual, so delight from listening is guaranteed. The album’s title song, Life in a Beautiful Light, proved to be very life-assuring, and that is nothing but a good and strong side. Macdonald knows how to make people believe in themselves and cheer them up, and let it be this way. By the way, the deluxe version of a long play included several pleasant bonus acoustic tracks, including fascinating The Furthest Star, Across The Nile and others.

Sincere creativity and melodic rock

It is always great when an artist sings songs that had been created by himself, because this seems to be the only way how listeners may get real emotions and feelings. Amy Macdonald managed to establish a reputation (well-deserved, actually) of an amazing composer and performer, and luckily she keeps on proving her creative consistency. The singer’s first two studio works were received by music lovers and critics very well, so no wonder that Life in a Beautiful Light appeared to be in a spotlight immediately. Well, Macdonald’s fans got exactly what they had been looking for. Amy remained faithful to her signature easy recognizable style, which absorbed the best elements of rock, folk and indie-rock. Her songs still sound warm and it feels that they shed light. Cozy atmosphere of Life in a Beautiful Light will be highly enjoyed by lovers of soulful music, which is not overloaded with digital effects and processing. All songs do sound simple and charming – talent and experience let Amy create songs that are worth attention.
