Ace of Base
Biography
The famous band Ace Of Base was formed in late eighties in Swedish city Gothenburg. The group’s name was chosen between Kalinin Prospect, CAD (Computer-Aided Disco) and Tech-Noir, but finally the musicians picked Ace Of Base. Ulf Ekberg noted that they liked the very way it sounded and that it described a certain aspect of Ace Of Base’s early career: the musicians started to rehearse in the basement (base).
The band’s debut studio work Happy Nation/The Sign saw the light in 1993 and it created a furore in no time. The record attracted millions of listeners’ attention due to the interesting sound and incredibly original compositions. That was Happy Nation/The Sign that presented All That She Wants, Happy Nation and other songs that became truly recognizable hits. The musicians’ debut long play was certified Ninefold Platinum in the USA, and that fact proved both the highest level of the material and the fans’ interest in Ace Of Base’s creativity. The release of the second studio attempt The Bridge took place in 1995. That album turned out to be as strong as its predecessor, and the listeners got such powerful compositions as Beautiful Life and Never Gonna Say I'm Sorry. Ace Of Base managed to find their unique style that was so much enjoyed by the fans all around the world, while the tunes of that band can be hardly mixed up with someone else’s.
The third long play Flowers/Cruel Summer was issued in 1998 and it got fair reviews from musical experts, while the single Life Is A Flower found its place in the air of numerous radio stations. The following album was scheduled to appear in 2000, however because of the problems with the record label the musicians had to postpone its release. Thereby Da Capo saw the light in 2002. The name of this studio work is the musical term: “back to the beginning”, so it explained the band’s wish to get back to the earlier career’s sound. It is worth mentioning that Ace Of Base succeeded in it indeed.
The release of long-awaited album The Golden Ratio took place in 2010. The new line-up of Ace Of Base presented the fresh material, which was created in the band’s best traditions. The Golden Ratio already attracted attention of many listeners, and there is no doubt that it will be interesting not only for Ace Of Base’s old fans, but also for all the good and original music lovers.
