Looking 4 Myself review

Change while staying true

The secret of Usher’s longevity on the music stage is simple, yet doing the same trick is impossible for almost everyone else around. The famous pop-music performer always rearranges something in his approach, yet remaining within his style. His albums and individual songs may be very different from each other, but they all reflect the master’s touch and there is no doubt it is Usher who made them. What kind of accuracy and precision he has to follow the tendencies so close and always choose the right tools to achieve his goals! The American star’s album number seven, Looking For Myself, long before its official release, was announced as a multi-sided composition with traces of a lot of musical trends. However, Usher’s signature manner will unite all of its pieces and you will always know that it was him and nobody else.

Classical R&B in fancy combinations

The mighty start in Looking For Myself is a perfect selection to war up the folks on the dance floor. Can’t Stop Won’t Stop, and Scream are inflated with heavy basses and erase the lines between classical R&B, and dubstep. These solid and quality tracks, though, serve only to prepare the listener for the main hit, Climax. Here, Usher switches to falsetto and the music decorated with melodies is more like R&B. The first half of the album gathers basically those songs which clearly reflect the singer’s usual style, but they sound variously because of different producers responsible for them. Those particularly romantically tuned will fall in love with ballad Dive, but nothing else of that kind will be found further on the record. The second half of the Usher’s fresh CD offers a more experimental material, but the artist never goes too far. Numb, and Euphoria, the couple placed close to the end, presents a special interest. The producers of the tracks are trance giants Swedish House Mafia, and they took pleasure in wrapping the singer’s voice in the music they know everything about. But there was more to be expected from the title song Looking 4 Myself, but it appeared just not worse than many other here.

An offer you can't refuse

There is no denial mainly due to the great production did Usher manage to prepare such an emphatic and original record where every following track offers something new. Moreover, the vocal parts done for Looking For Myself by the guest performers also did play a significant part. It is sufficient just to point out another single Lemme See, where Rick Ross is on top of his form. What could be just one more story about an easy win in love warfare turned into a classy track with everything a hit needs. But what about Usher? He has once again done everything right as he made most out of his abilities. Alternating serious texts with the not very serious ones (and the latter are predominant here), and easily going from normal vocals to falsetto and back, he proves that time is still unable to affect his perfect form and outstanding vigor. Despite the title of the CD, Usher does not look for himself here. He found his own self on the music stage long ago, and this album does not bring anything completely unknown. Nonetheless, the same usher has again changed a little bit, and, again, for the better. Whether it is the Deluxe or the basic version, the Looking For Myself album is one of those offers you can’t refuse.
