Nine Types Of Light

Beginning of TV On The Radio’s creative development
The band TV On The Radio was formed in urban jungle of New York in 2001. Its members were fond of various music genres and that fact had a strong influence on their future creativity: thanks to the quintet’s efforts, post-punk, electronica, soul and even jazz turned out to be harmonically mixed up with each other. TV On The Radio’s debut took place in 2002, when they issued the very first album OK Calculator, which name is definitely an allusion to Radiohead’s work OK Computer. Critics noticed the young band, and time showed that they were right. In spite of such various preferences in music of the band’s members, TV On The Radio managed to find and establish their unique style, which included the best elements of different genres. Such kind of cocktail was not ignored, and in practically no time TV On The Radio gained a huge fan base. Thus in 2011 the rockers released their fourth studio attempt Nine Types Of Light, which centered big hopes on.
Nine Types Of Light
TV On The Radio never limited themselves, and it is connected not only with the music. The first track of the album got quite an unusual name for the opening composition - Second Song; thereby it can be a great example of the musicians’ wish to free creation. Interesting arrangements play their role of a wonderful addition to the vocal part, which, in its turn, got a notable place. It is hard to ignore a huge part of drums in general and of a beat in particular. It seems that many compositions were based on rhythmic vibrations that stand for massive foundation, so the songs You and No Future Shock demonstrate that perfectly. This kind of percussion makes a listener ready for this or that tempo, and only after that other instruments create the rest of the atmosphere. There is absolutely no doubt that the musicians of TV On The Radio took much pains to realize all their ideas on Nine Types Of Light. As the result, this record proved to be extremely miscellaneous. One can find energetic compositions here just next to slow tempo melodic ballads, such as Will Do. Moreover, TV On The Radio managed to surprise their fans, and that fact deserves respect by itself, as soon as the band was never an ordinary one.
Multicolored album Nine Types Of Light
It has been three years since the release of Dear Science, the band’s previous long play. During that period the musicians collected a great number of fresh ideas, gained strength and realized all of them in a skilful way on Nine Types Of Light. TV On The Radio created a bright cocktail of various genres, so they got the product that can be called indie-rock. Daring arrangements, rememberable vocal parts and incredible, almost cosmic atmosphere of that studio attempt will be enjoyed by old fans of New-York band and by all the connoisseurs of unusual music, without any exceptions. The very album Nine Types Of Light can easily become a sort of encyclopedia of genres and styles: rock, electronica, hip-hop and even a capella – all these merged into one big thing. However the final result does not remind of some kind of unimaginable kaleidoscope. On the contrary, TV On The Radio’s style implies the harmony of genres that are quite distant from each other. Nine Types Of Light became the logical development of the rockers’ ideas, which is hardly surprising: they made a long way to that album, and the eventual result completely satisfied the music lovers’ expectations.
