Up, Guards And At 'Em! review
The Pigeon Detectives’ third step
By 2011 The Pigeon Detectives’ discography included two long plays: Wait For Me that saw the light in 2007 and Emergency, which appeared in 2008. Soon after a debut the group gained popularity and acknowledgement of critics and numerous music lovers. With the help of their creativity, the musicians proved that they were not just another band playing indie-rock or garage rock. By the method of trials and errors The Pigeon Detectives managed to find their sound. It goes without saying that it was not an easy call, especially considering the quantity of colleagues: nowadays indie-rock is extremely popular, that is it. Thus, the quintet’s creativity absorbed the strongest sides of “independent rock”, flavored with The Pigeon Detectives’ unique ideas and concepts.
The way to Up, Guards And At 'Em!
The band’s first works were acclaimed by experts; however the constructive criticism took its place as well. Sometimes the quintet sounded not very professional, but it can be easily paid off by little experience. Nevertheless these insignificant pratfalls played their role: The Pigeon Detectives were not blamed for the lack of drive. Meanwhile the time went by, the musicians had been mastering their skills and moreover the rocker spent three years for Up, Guards And At 'Em! preparation. Well, the very first compositions let us know that The Pigeon Detectives did not waste their time: She Wants Me will please listeners with an amazing sound and arrangements. Then it becomes even more interesting. Did someone complaine about absence of remeberable guitar solos? Lost will place everything on the right places: here is the energetic gallop, which reminds of the legendary Muse, and the bright and melodic solo. All in all Up, Guards And At 'Em! will be truly enjoyed by the music lovers who appreciates high quality sound. Songs of that long play do not copy each other, but at the same time they do not seem like a chaotic mass of various compositions. You will find here both slow and melodic songs and tracks with incredible drive. Curiously enough they complete each other perfectly, so Up, Guards And At 'Em! will become an ideal soundtrack to both a loud party or a calm pastime.
The Pigeon Detectives switch to the new level
The rockers learned a lot from the experience of Wait For Me and Emergency. They understood what people wanted to hear from them; however the band remained faithful to what they did and kept on their own way. The Pigeon Detectives’ style is still easy recognizable, although the whole sound switched to the new level. It is the same loud indie-rock with elements of punk and other genres in various proportions, but now all this sounds the way better. Carelessness was substituted by diligence: the quintet made a great job while working on the very single part and on the album’s concept in general. As the result Up, Guards And At 'Em! exceeded the listeners expectations, who were a little bit disappointed by the band’s previous studio attempt. The British’ third long play proved that the group is not stuck, it is moving forward. Maybe The Pigeon Detectives needed some time to find their way and to get the right mood. This is a young band, while their definitely strong album Up, Guards And At 'Em! became the best proof of the fact that even bigger success awaits for the rockers.
