Incredibad
Studio Album by The Lonely Island released in 2009Incredibad review
The Lonely Island, the brightest representatives of comedy in music
It is already a common knowledge that laughing prolongs life so the genre of comedy is not only poplar but also useful. There is nothing too special about comedy in cinema, theater and literature but in music this is something quite rare. The brightest example of this musical direction can serve the works of the project called The Lonely Island, created by comedians Akiva Schaffer, Jorma Taccone, and Andy Samberg. This three-piece hailing from California has been pleasing not only the Internet audience with its funny shorts but also lately performing on the television show Saturday Night Live. Besides their first feature film Hot Rod was released in 2007 after which everyone knew about these guys. Constantly widening their range of interest these young but rather outstanding creative personalities release their debut album Incredibad, which includes some hits already known from the show and new compositions recorded with the participation of the most interesting guest stars.
Externally the greater part of Incredibad record sticks to R&B and hip-hop
The authors of all the tracks on Incredibad are the members of The Lonely Island, and a whole constellation of music and film stars is involved in performing. As for the production rappers T-Pain and E-40 were the ones to make it so externally the greater part of the record sticks to the R&B and hip-hop styles. The album opens with a loud track Who Said We're Wack?, on which the guys claim what they are worth with an exaggerated pride. The song Santana DVX featuring E-40 is devoted to Champaign and refined with a tune from Carlos Santana's famous song Maria Maria while the obligatory part of the program are the hits Jizz In My Pants and I'm On A Boat, on which T-Pain personally raps and presents his vocal sample for the chorus. Jack Black joins the guys on Sax Man, whereas Chris Parnell has refined the song Lazy Sunday with his performance. Boombox featuring Julian Casablancas is built on the contrast between a mysterious half whispering of the verses and a raged, aggressive refrain while the album’s most romantic track should be considered Dreamgirl on which the chorus is refined with Norah Jones’ excellent vocals combining well with the fashionable beat. Justin Timberlake has got an honorable role of a vocalist on another hit Dick In A Box, an absolutely unserious but endlessly romantic R&B song and another surprise is Natalie's Rap on which Natalie Portman amazes everyone with her emotional rap rebuff. The album closes with the title composition Incredibad telling the jocose story of The Lonely Island’s formation and the project members’ brief biography.
Very soon these songs will be learnt by heart
If you saw the film Hot Rod you have an idea what The Lonely Island is – bold, spontaneous, honest and inventive, these guys do know ho to make you laugh. In fact rather a big team constantly works with them and the project includes a couple of unofficial members such as for instance Chester Tam, an Internet expert. On the whole the audience likes the guys so their music has chances to be a success, too. The record Incredibad has been released along with its vynil versions and DVDs on which one can see the videos for some of the album’s compositions. Funny texts overly full of unprintable vocabulary have been always approved by young viewers so one can have no doubt that the songs are going to be popular as well and thanks to the texts’ simplicity everyone will learn them by heart very soon. It is unknown whether Incredibad is only a start of the talented comedians’ music career one thing is certain: whatever they do in future everything will be fine as these guys always remain themselves.
