Junk Of The Heart review
The Kooks’ vigorous rise
It is not a secret to anyone that Foggy Albion is a homeland for numerous talented and distinctive bands. It is a tough thing to find the place in the sun there; however The Kooks managed to do that. The Kooks is one of those groups, who could get the success in quite a short period of time. Their debut long play Inside In/Inside Out of 2006 made a real furor – in great Britain that record got the multi platinum status and made a way to the second line in the country’s main chart. Konk of 2008 turned out to be not less successful, so the band got the reputation of innovators, who did not forget about good old rock and roll. Brit-pop, pop-music, rock, ska, reggae and many other directions somehow found room in The Kooks’ creativity. The quartet was going forward in a confident way, mastering performing skills and the unique style. The kooks made efforts to record Junk of the Heart – compromises are not the option, especially after such a bright start of the career.
A dozen of Junk of the Heart tracks
So, here it is. The long-awaited portion of rock without limits from Great Britain. The very first composition Junk Of The Heart (Happy) creates the right mood – the mid-tempo guitar chords and a little bit careless vocals - The Kooks greet the lovers of indie-rock. The positive How'd You Like That also has the positive notes, and its chorus will probably stay in one’s memory for a long time. However the musicians did not stick to something special, so Junk of the Heart will present a great number of attitudes and moods. Thus, the song Taking Pictures Of You sounds thoughtful and kind of mysterious. Well, that piece of art can become an excellent soundtrack for a calm autumn evening, when a person just wants to sit and to think about something. In general The Kooks’ style has not changed a lot. At least you should not wait for the big surprises from the new long play. Thereby, the composition Killing Me is a perfect exemplar of the quartet’s creativity: loud chords, rememberable melodies and outstanding vocals. And of course we must remember about pleasant arrangements, which are not overloaded with some extra elements. There is absolutely no doubt that The Kooks’ fans will enjoy Junk of the Heart in the full volume.
Stage number three
Well, the quartet already issued two amazing albums that deserved their right to be hits. The musicians got listeners’ acknowledgment, which, in its turn, is the best proof of the fact that The Kooks’ music is both high-class and called-for. Their style absorbed elements of many directions, however it is quite solid and does not remind on some sort of a mosaic. So, are changes so necessary after all? Junk of the Heart will hardly differ from Inside In/Inside Out or Konk in general, but it is a good point, actually. The creative development is important, but it must come naturally, without external help. The Kooks keep on walking their path, with nice guitar accompaniment. And let it stay unchanged, till the rockers enjoy their own songs. Indie-rock from The Kooks still pleases listeners, and that is the main thing.
