The Dead Weather

American super-band The Dead Weather was formed in 2009 in Nashville. The line-up includes such famous musicians as Alison Mosshart (the vocalist of The Kills and Discount), Dean Fertita (the guitarist of Queens of the Stone Age), Jack Lawrence (the bassist of The Raconteurs and The Greenhornes) and Jack White (the guitarist and vocalist of The White Stripes and The Raconteurs, who became the drummer in The Dead Weather). The story of The Dead Weather started in 2009 at The Raconteurs show, when Jack asked Alison Mosshart to replace him in several songs. Alison agreed immediately and performed Steady as She Goes and Salute Your Salution. She did that so bright and emotionally that after the gig Jack offered her to make a joint record. Thus, two more musicians were invited to work together, and that is how the four members of The Dead Weather met.

The debut album titled Horehound was released in 2009. It got fair reviews from the musical experts and the music lovers acclaimed that record as well. Horehound included original band’s songs and the amazing cover-version of Bob Dylan’s composition New Pony. The quartet recorded the debut album within one month; however they managed to create an incredibly powerful sound, reminding of the good old 70’s rock. It is worth mentioning that Horehound turned out to be original (the music lovers will enjoy the surprising organ’s sound in I Cut Like A Buffalo) and extremely strong: all the songs are recognizable and different at the same time.

The band’s second studio work titled Sea Of Cowards was released in 2010. It is just as good as the first record: the musicians knew what to do and they succeeded in creating a delightful and interesting atmosphere. Sea Of Cowards includes fast and dynamic punk songs (Die By The Drop, Looking At The Invisible Man) and the blues compositions (Blue Blood Blues). Jack White described that album as “bluesier and heavier”. The talented musicians get on with each other perfectly, and now they create bright music with very strong sound. After the release of Sea Of Cowards The Dead Weather gained even more fans, because it is simply impossible to ignore the quartet’s art. Anyone can make sure that the members of The Dead Weather have plenty of fresh ideas, and Sea Of Cowards is the best proof.
