...Earth to the Dandy Warhols...
Studio Album by The Dandy Warhols released in 2008...Earth to the Dandy Warhols... review
The Dandy Warhols lets go its imagination
The band The Dandy Warhols that surprised USA with its unusual sound over ten years ago has practically remained unchanged during all the time of its existence still continuing to create music that arouses most varied emotions from indignation to delight. Its often sarcastic and humorous lyrics and interesting melodies are the efficient ingredient of each of its next album. The success of 2005's record Odditorium or Warlords of Mars inspired Courtney Taylor-Taylor and his company to record a new conceptual album Earth To The Dandy Warhols whose main theme has naturally become space. The title not devoid of frank self irony and the psychedelic sounding define the record as rather a typical work of The Dandy Warhols which is perfect for both dancing and deep reflections. Yet The Dandy Warhols itself does hardly ever think of what people are going to do listening to its music. It is more probable that the guys have just let their imagination go as always and allowed the instruments do their job. The result of all that is the record Earth To The Dandy Warhols that can be listened when you are alone or with a company of friends that agree to close their eyes on sometimes too cynical texts and go to a space trip together with The Dandy Warhols.
The shadow of mysterious darkness on Earth To The Dandy Warhols
Earth To The Dandy Warhols is similar to and different from the band's previous works at the same time: the unclassified noises and humor are all still here but a much greater amount of tracks is covered with the shadow of mysterious darkness. The album opens with a unearthly mid-tempo composition The World Come On with unimaginable guitars and contagious shouting of all the crew members while Mission Control is a much more powerful and harder piece pleasing with Courtney Taylor-Taylor's impressive vocals and a memorable tune. Single Welcome The The Third World is a splendid greeting from the 80's reminding simultaneously of the works of David Bowie, The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd, whereas Wasp In The Lotus is rather closer to the dark gothic rock so those fond of the genre will be no less pleased than those who expected more of a classic rock from The Dandy Warhols. Song And Then I Dreamt Of Yes pretends to the role of a single due to an unforgettable beautiful melody and successful rhythm the only thing a little annoying in this mixture of unusual sounds being the deaf whispering vocals but after several times of listening to it something else seems even inappropriate here. Another luck is country composition Love Song while Mis Amigos brings us to the atmosphere of mariachi and rock-n-roll especially ordered by those who like to dance. Track The Legend Of The Last Of The Outlaw Truckers AKA The Ballad Of Sheriff Shorty is remarkable not only for its unique title but also the most contagious rhythm on the record whereas the album closet is a really fascinating fifteen minute long adventure Musee D'Nougat, mysterious and wonderful once again confirming the fact that there are no stylistic nor thematic borders for The Dandy Warhols.
Music useless to classify
If the record of 2005 surprised the The Dandy Warhols fans with a powerful rock-n-roll then today's album is a returning to the period in the band’s creative work when the psychedelic played the leading part and the melodies were the closest to pop music. Yet the conception of Earth To The Dandy Warhols is so far from everything the band has done before that the record can be easily called experimental. Then again this bold collective has never shunned anything new, on the contrary it has always tried to widen the frames of the generally acknowledged. It is useless trying to classify its music and moreover analyze for its main task is to relax the listener and act favorably on his mood. Earth To The Dandy Warhols is the album of the ending summer hinting that the change of seasons is only one of the universal phenomena as well as music that exist independently from us. Thus remaining itself The Dandy Warhols has opened some more of the new horizons in its creative work and these discoveries are sure to continue – a fact that cannot but please.
