Biography

The British artist Teddy Thompson was born in the middle of seventies in the family of musicians Richard and Linda Thompson, who are considered to be among the most influential performers of folk-scene. Since the very childhood music became a huge part of Teddy’s life, and while other teenagers listened to rock and tried to copy their idols, young Thompson had the role models just in front of him. His sister, Kamila, also decided to devote herself to the music, and now she is working on her very first record.

In nineties of the twentieth century Teddy sang and played a guitar in his father’s band, getting the experience and mastering performance skills. By 2000 he was ready to launch the solo career, and the eponymous studio attempt Teddy Thompson (2000) attracted listeners’ in practically no time. The album got excellent reviews from the critics; however it did not prove to commercially successful. Nevertheless that did not affect the musician’s following works, as soon as he found his sound and style that were so much enjoyed by the listeners. Teddy pleased music lovers with another strong long play titled Separate Ways, which had been created with the help of his parents Richard and Linda.

Thompson’s discography was enlarged by an interesting long play Upfront & Down Low in 2007. It included cover versions of Teddy’s favorite songs (among them was Elvis Presley’s I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone) and original compositions as well. A year later the performer issued the record A Piece Of What You Need (2008) and it peaked on number ten of the United Kingdom chart in a very confident way. That studio attempt turned out to be interesting and original. Thus, in composition Turning The Gun On Myself the musician used the slowed down sound of a gunshot, which harmonically became a part of the song as an element of percussion.

Release of Teddy’s brand new studio attempt titled Bella took place in 2011. The musician created a strong album in his easy recognizable style featuring traits of such genres as rock, pop-music, folk and even country. Great experiments with the sound and soulful vocals became Thompson’s signature distinctives and on Bella they are presented in a full volume. Delilah, Take Me Back Again and other compositions will please listeners not only by the incredible sound, but also by the rememberable lyrics with the black humor. Teddy Thompson established a reputation of extremely talented and sincere artist, and his works prove that perfectly.
