Sugababes
Biography
The UK teenage trio Sugababes came into the musical industry in 1998. Initially it consisted of Siobhan Donaghy, Keisha Buchanan, and Mutya Buena. Mutya and Keisha were friends, interested in popular music. They met Donaghy at a party and invited her to join them. Girls did not intend to go in for music, but in 2000 they signed a contract with London label. Their studio work with producer Cameron McVey, known for his collaboration with All Saints, resulted in their debut album One Touch that saw the light in 2001. It featured sweet teen- pop tracks, written by all three girls together, including the main hit Overload. But sales were lower than it was expected, and London refused from further work with the band. In the fall of 2001 there were some rumours about Donaghy's leaving the group. The other two participants did not approve the fact that Siobhan left the band soon after the support tour. Nevertheless, the rumours had a firm grounding. Later Donaghy started a solo career singing alt- pop and by now recorded two albums: Revolution In Me (2003) and Ghosts (2007).
Heidi Range, who earlier left Atomic Kitten, replaced Donaghy in the band. The trio found a new recording company, Island Records, and released their second album, Angels With Dirty Faces in 2002. The main, but not the only attraction of the work became the cover for Adina Howard's 1995 R&B single Freak Like Me. The winding dancing composition with a stylish R&B installation Round Round was also warmly met by the public. It was followed by a wonderful ballad Stronger, and Sugababes' second album got three times platinum the same year. They immediately got down to the next work in order to fix the commercial success. Three, released in late 2003, did not fail their expectations. This album presented to the world the sparkling Dance Pop song Hole In The Head that even got into the US charts, though winning American dancefloors was not among the aims of the band.
In two years the group enlarged their popularity by the forth studio work, Taller In More Ways. Soon after the presentation of the album Sugababe Buena reported about her departure. She is said to still have friendly relations with the other members of the band. One of the personal reasons to leave the band could become the birth of her daughter in March 2005. Though it did not stop Mutya from beginning her solo career soon after. In 2007 Buena released her debut creation Real Girl. In Sugababes she was replaced by Amelle Berrabah. It was decided to re-record Taller In More Ways with a new vocalist. Amelle's vocals figure on some tracks, while others preserved Buena's singing. Taller In More Ways became one of the undoubted leaders of the UK charts. Although Keisha Buchanan announced her departure in order to record a solo work. She added, however, that the group was only going to have a short break. Keisha promised to return to the band and kept her word. Overloaded: The Singles Collection was out by the end of 2006. In 2007 Sugababes released Change, the first work featuring Berrabah's vocals on all the tracks. Sugababes were quick enough to issue in the following year another studio album that was called Catfights And Spotlights. This work became a perfect example of brilliantly executed vocal parts and top quality arrangement, which made it a high seller in the shortest time. In 2010 Sugababes released their seventh studio album titled Sweet 7. The band got new producers and that is why Sweet 7 got electro and dance pop sound.
