Sale el sol
Studio Album by Shakira released in 2010Sale el sol review
Shakira unites all the genres she has tried before
Oriental dance, a faultless control of her body, great vocals, honesty, introspection and sense of humor in the lyrics – this is all about Shakira. The Columbian singer has known since childhood that she would connect here life with creative work and started to express herself at the age of 4. Before becoming a world-level star, however, Shakira faced the commercial failure of two of her albums, which is why everything she has achieved today is the result of her stubborn work and belief in herself. She has been going in for music for twenty years now, almost two thirds of her life, exploring different genres and successfully performing pop music, rock and club electro-pop. The latter was embodied on her last year’s work She Wolf, the most eclectic and hottest one in her discography. A year has passed, and the singer records a new creation Sale el Sol in which all the genres she has tried before are united for the first time, and both the happy and sad moments of her personal life have found reflection.
A vivid, rich and varied album Sale El Sol
The album Sale el Sol is the mixture of rock, Spanish rap, ethnic motifs and of course pop music, vivid, rich and varied. Unlike most of her previous works this one offers quite a large percentage of serious compositions but they by no means make the album boring or dark but simply touch the strings of your soul. The album opens wit the title composition, a beautiful mid-tеmpo rock tune with acoustic and electro guitars, telling of rises and falls in everyone’s life. The first single Loca is a contagious danceable song, a remake of the Dominican rapper El Cata’s hit Loca Con Su Tiguere. The composition is presented in two versions – one featuring Dizzee Rascal and another with El Cata himself each being interesting in its own way. A lyrical number Antes De Las Seis contrasts with the least serious track on the album Gordita featuring the Puerto Rican rap team Calle 13 in the face of its front man Residente and with the impetuous, a bit nervous and worrisome number Addicted To You. These songs are underlined by another ballad Lo Que Mas with a keyboards accompaniment which allows Shakira to be even more emotional and soulful. Another hot track for the clubs Rabiosa is also present in two variants on the album performed with rapper Pitbull and with El Cata once again. The passionate composition Tu Boca is responsible for the rock genre and does not disappoint, and the album closers are three versions of the singer’s new calling card – the FIFA Cup 2010’s anthem Waka Waka (This Time For Africa) in its rock variation, its Spanish version (Esto Es Africa) and the original one featuring Freshlyground.
A true creative personality as well as a normal person
Shakira’s third bilingual and seventh studio album Sale El Sol is the brightest portrayal of her emotional scale. The singer is getting upset, dancing, thinking, confesses of love, laughs and seduces on this record. On the one hand, the tracks have practically no connection between them and it would be impossible to place them in any systematic sequence. On the other hand, all of them reflect this or that part of Shakira’s life, and she has always been notable for her outstanding temper and a strong character. As for the song Waka Waka (This Time For Africa) it has been a step demanding a lot of responsibility from her side, and she has carried the task out with honor keeping in mind how many people are going to listen to this song and what it is going to associate for them with. Thus Shakira has once again proved that she is a true creative personality as well as a normal person who does not only entertain all the time but also makes mistakes, suffers and laughs as anyone else.
