Soul 2 review
Seal knows how to record amazing albums
The British performer Seal definitely knows what the excellent music is. His numerous albums, which are critically acclaimed, enjoyed by listeners and that got their well-deserved acknowledgment, prove that fact perfectly. Now Seal is in the great shape. Just judge by yourself: the last year he issued an outstanding album called Commitment, and in a year the artist is ready to present his new creation. Well, the listeners will be happy to get acquainted with Seal’s new long play. His easy recognizable baritone and signature melodious ballads are not getting out of fashion, especially if we pay attention to the fact that the musician really enjoys singing about things, which are fascinating and interesting for everybody: he shares his thoughts about love, feelings and relationships. Thus, all these emotions, flavored by rich arrangements, always find their listeners. And even the most sophisticated connoisseurs of music will be able to find a song for the right mood: rock, soul, rhythm and blues and even dance music - Seal feels comfortable in any of these genres. Nevertheless, the main place has always been taken by the soul, of course. The talented performer has a great experience in the sphere of album recording, as soon as his debut long play saw the light back in 1991. Many things changed since that moment, but not Seal’s love and passion to the creativity.
Soul 2 – another amazing album
In the year 2008 Seal released the long play of cover-versions, which was titled Soul. It proved to be so successful that it was decided to record another studio attempt that would consist of new interpretations of old classic soul compositions. Thereby, the time-tested hits of such masters of that genre as Al Green, Marvin Gaye and many others found the completely new sound. The album’s very first song called Wishing On A Star creates the amazing atmosphere for listeners: soft bass and the true freedom for Seal’s voice set up the right mood. The romance in general is the major theme of Soul 2, and that is not a surprise, after all. Wishing On A Star is followed by not less touching composition Love T.K.O, which keeps on indulging music lovers with incredible emotionality. Let's Stay Together and What's Going On? are amazing proofs of the fact that bright and optimistic soul music stays its ground, even in spite of its bloom left behind in the previous century. The fashion may change and it will change, but feelings and emotions will stay. Especially if they are really sincere.
Classic in modern performance
Cover versions are always interesting and they always attract attention. As a rule, musicians choose the time-tested compositions, and then comes the anxiety: will the song loose it’s attitude, emotional coloring and so on? But in case with Seal we certainly do not have to worry about all these things. He managed to establish a reputation of an extremely talented and, which is also very important, very dedicated to the creativity performer. The compilation of songs for Soul 2 does not cause any doubts about their high class or importance. As the artist stated by himself, “it is the classics for all times”, and it is just impossible to argue with that. New interpretations of old compositions prove to be absolutely outstanding, so the idea to make a logical continuation of Soul was really good one. And Soul 2 is as good, as its predecessor. Seal enlarged his discography with a great long play, and do not be puzzled, because it is a cover versions album. Performed by one of the best soul artist of our time, these songs do sound astonishing. Is not it the main thing, after all?
