Schiller
Biography
For his seventh Birthday in 1977 Christopher von Deylen was made a present of a piano by his grandfather. The following piano lessons left their mark on his future career of musician. Coincidence and luck brought him to a musically open piano teacher who was also a fan of electronic music. At the age of 16 Christopher managed to unsettle the spectators at a concert at the music school: his first electronic compositions were accompanied by a psychedelic slide show – pictures of the first manned landing on the moon appearing to heavenly sound sequences. As a member of the high school band he played the synthesizer and tried his hand at sound engineering with a four-track cassette recorder.
After high school (1990) von Deylen started a degree in Applied Cultural Studies in Lueneburg. Then in 1992 came a pre-masters course with "Music" as a core subject. During this time he made contact with music publisher Peter Meisel in Berlin who introduced him into the Hamburg studio scene. Finally in 1994 came the release of the first single production under the pseudonym f.l.y., Feel the Rhythm. The record failed, but this didn’t stop him, and he continued on his musical path both as a producer and a musician. In 1998 the time has come – the project named in honor of German poet Friedrich Schiller was born. Originally club-oriented project with dance elements Schiller pushed musical boundaries on the debut album Zeitgeist (1999).
After that Von Deylen undertook a long road trip with his father. They drove from London to Peking. The impressions of this 2 month-long journey were dealt with on the album Weltreise. Released in summer 2001, the disc became gold. The song Dream of You with Peter Heppner of Wolfsheim turned into the most successful Schiller's single so far, and marked the beginning of a fertile collaboration. Like the previous album Zeitgeist, Weltreise was recorded in the bedroom of von Deylen's two-room apartment in Hamburg. The third Schiller's album Leben came into being in 2003. This album continued the tradition of the previous CD and also became gold. In 2005 another brilliant Schiller's album Tag und Nacht was released.
In his interviews Schiller says that he plays live music occasionally, but prefers to create compositions at his studio. From the first sounds listener feels that the music consists not only of professionalism and talent, but also of a greater part of musician's soul. There are no heavy moments in Schiller's music, but it is impossible to call it "background noise" as all of the compositions have reach musical content. It's very easy to catch the spirits of tracks despite there are almost no lyrics in them. Schiller's music is ideal for creating soft atmosphere, making love, resting or traveling by car, thinking or even meditation.
