Lucinda Williams

American artist Lucinda Williams was born in Louisiana in 1953. Her father was a poet and he was fond of playing the piano. Thus, it pretty much predetermined Lucinda’s future, as soon as she was close with the music since her very childhood. Following her father’s steps, young Williams started to write at six and by twelve she began learning the art of guitar. The singer’s debut performance took place in Mexico City when she was only seventeen years old. Of course, Lucinda’s talent was noticed and the amount of her fans who enjoyed her sincerity and skills, was gradually increasing.

Williams continued to perform a lot and to establish her style: signature elements of folk, country and rock became the permanent details of her creativity. By late seventies the singer was ready to try her luck at studio work, and the album of cover-versions of blues and country songs titled Ramblin' was released in 1979. The studio attempt Happy Woman Blues, which included Lucinda’s own material, saw the light in 1980. That long play managed to attract listeners’ attention, but they had to wait for the following work for long eight years. Nevertheless, the self-titled record Lucinda Williams (1988) completely satisfied the music lovers’ expectations. It is worth mentioning that this work turned out to be so strong that it was re-released in 1998 with some bonus tracks. Many experts agreed that Lucinda Williams proved to be one of the artist’s best works, while by 2000 more than a hundred thousand copies were sold in the USA.

Williams was honored with Grammy Award in the category Best Country Song for Passionate Kisses in 1994. That prestigious award became a great proof of the fact that Lucinda’s creations had been enjoyed not only by the listeners, but also by the Grammy jury. Of course that says a lot about the quality of the material presented by the singer. In nineties of the twentieth century Lucinda pleased her fans with such strong works as Sweet Old World (1992) and Car Wheels On A Gravel Road (1998). It is worth mentioning that the latter took the well-deserved place in Williams’ discography. In the twenty first century the artist released many traditionally powerful albums, such as Essence (2001), World Without Tears (2003) and many others. The release of Lucinda’s first concert album titled Live @ The Fillmore took place in 2005. Excellent choice of songs and incredible atmosphere were enjoyed not only by William’s old fans, but also by all the connoisseurs of live sound.

The studio attempt West saw the light in 2007 and it made a way to the third place in Canadian Country Chart, while the following work titled Little Honey (2008) managed to peak at the very top of this chart. These successful albums proved that Williams still has lots of fresh ideas that she is glad to share with her listeners. Music fans love Lucinda’s creativity for the sincerity, and that kind of outspokenness became one of the singer’s most recognizable features. The artist released her new record Blessed, which became the logical development of her previous works, in 2011.
