Compilation by London Philharmonic Orchestra And Andrew Skeet released in 2011The Greatest Video Game Music review
London Philharmonic Orchestra and Andrew Skeet are ready to surprise
The famous philharmonic orchestra of London is very well known to listeners. And it does not really matter whether you like philharmonic music or not, but you have probably heard compositions, performed by that amazing orchestra. They have already recorded beautiful soundtracks for various movies, including the legendary trilogy, based on Tolkien’s creation “Lord Of The Rings”. Andrew Skeet, who took a direct part in the work on the album The Greatest Video Game Music as a composer, arranger and a conductor, is also quite well-known person. He had been working on the soundtrack for a new movie, when representatives of the famous orchestra got into touch with him and offered collaboration. It goes without saying that Andrew Skeet was glad to have such an opportunity to work together with professionals of such class. The musician is sure that many video games reached a completely new level due to outstanding music. In fact, without it such development was just impossible. Actually, people who have already played Angry Birds, series of The Elder Scrolls or Mass Effect know perfectly about compositions that are presented in these video games. Recently the whole game industry made a huge step forward, and that includes all the aspects: from engines and new shader technologies to the music itself. Enjoying and exploring atmosphere of this or that game would not be complete without the right compositions, and that is why professional composers participate in creating of soundtracks. Well, London Philharmonic Orchestra is ready to bring the game music to a completely new level.
The Greatest Video Game Music: when title fits the content
This original and extremely unusual album includes twenty two tracks, which is not a little, actually. Of course, the number of great games and outstanding compositions is much bigger; however it is just impossible to get them all within one record. The album is opened by a track with a beautiful title Muse from science fiction action game Advent Rising. Very triumphant sound plays its role of an introductory song just perfectly. The track from a famous game Legend Of Zelda was chosen as a second act. Then the musicians present a composition from a realistic shooter Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2: this one turned out to be festive and soldier like, almost a battle music. Of course, there was enough room on the album for bright and fun two dimensional games, such as Angry Birds and Super Mario Bros. Also the musicians just could not ignore incredibly beautiful and melodious songs from such legendary series, like The Elder Scrolls, Final Fantasy and Halo. There is no doubt that a good old composition from Tetris: Tetris Theme will become a great and pleasant surprise for listeners.
Great addition to a music collection
The musicians made a great job indeed, so the general sound of an album proved to be really amazing. Listeners will get more than an hour of familiar and absolutely new compositions, which will definitely bring a lot of positive emotions. In spite of an impressive number of songs in track list, it was possible to comprehend only a very little part of attention-worthy creations. So, we can just hope that London Philharmonic Orchestra will be still interested in recording the continuation of the album, as soon as there is so much more great music from video games, which can be interpreted in a truly original way. The series of Silent Hill, where music plays an extremely important role, can be a good example. There is no doubt that orchestra of such level can add charm to it. All in all, The Greatest Video Game Music is not a long play for everyone. On the one hand, it has quite a narrow focusing. On the other hand this is universal music of the highest level. Just get acquainted with that record and you will probably discover a lot of interesting things for yourself.
