Gold Cobra review

A long way to Gold Cobra

Limp Bizkit appeared in late nineties of the twentieth century, when a combination of heavy guitar riffs, scratching, recitatives and aggressive vocals was something really new. Nu-metal was doing its first steps and Limp Bizkit musicians made their huge contribution to the further development of that style. The irreplaceable leader of the band, Fred Durst, became a well-recognized person, or even maybe a legendary one. His explosive character fits the aggressive and high-voltage music that is performed by Limp Bizkit just perfectly. No wonder that the band got fans all around the world in practically no time. The new, novel style was getting popular, while Limp Bizkit were pleasing fans with hits: Nookie, Break Stuff, Take A Look Around and many other songs became the band’s landmarks. The musicians began working on the material for their new, fifth studio attempt in 2009. It is also notable that Limp Bizkit reunited in their original line-up, which definitely became a reason for old fans’ joy.

Warning! Explosive!

While listening to Gold Cobra it feels like we are back in nineties, exactly at the moment when nu-metal was in full swing. Crazy energy, powerful sound, explicit aggressive lyrics and mockery – this is all about Gold Cobra. Bring It Back, the first track after an intro, immediately gives us to understand that Limp Bizkit worked really hard on their new creation. Fred’s vocals still can be hardly mixed up with someone else’s and political correctness did not become a part of texts: Limp Bizkit frontman prefers to speak plainly. If he does not like anything, it is possible and it is necessary to say something about it. And it is better to say it loud, so everyone can hear it. Is there too much of autotune in songs of various artists? Okay, here comes Autotunage, a kind of an evil “hello”. By the way the interludes between songs are worth paying attention to them, for sure. One can hear not only Durst’s phrases, but also little speeches, including ones in Russian. Gold Cobra became a sort of a compilation of all the strong sides that Limp Bizkit ever had. Their style was not seriously changed; however no one expected that anyways.

Limp Bizkit’s come back

The bands of Limp Bizkit level have fans all over the world. And all of them were looking forward for the release of the new album. Except for EP The Unquestionable Truth (Part 1) that saw the light in 2005 the band issued their previous full-length album back in 2003. In the period from 2004 to 2008 Limp Bizkit was in some strange condition, and a period when the guitarist Wes Borland left the group definitely did not become the best one for the band. Luckily the original line-up was reunited by 2009, so the fans got another reason to cheer up. The record Gold Cobra was put hopes upon, and now, after it was finally released, it can be stated that all the expectations were satisfied. Gold Cobra turned out to be old-school, loud, powerful, audacious and simply recorded in the band’s best traditions. The musicians remained faithful to themselves and to their style, and sure thing that it pleased the fans. Some things just remain unchanged, and it so good to realize that everything that Limp Bizkit is loved for was presented on Gold Cobra in full volume.
