LeToya’s long anticipated debut
LeToya Nicole Luckett, professionally known as LeToya, was born in Houston, Texas, USA, in 1981 and has been long a member of the R&B band Destiny’s Child which initially included also Beyonce Knowels, Kelly Rowland and LaTavia Roberson. Some time after the formation there began various conflicts within the group and even legal procedures took place, and soon LeToya has decised to pursue a solo career. In 2004 she signed with Capitol Records and gradually started to collect the material for the first album. The promo single U Got What I Need was followed by What Love Can Do and in 2005 the singer wrote several new tracks which appeared on the Internet including All Eyes On Me, another promo single. LeToya worked as a collaborator with Slim Thug on his album Already Platinum and at the end of the year released the What It Do! Mixtape which inclueded freestyles and album cuts. Finally the long anticipated debut album LeToya has been released this summer, its first single Torn having reached number two on the R&B charts. The record LeToya offers a variety of beautiful songs with singer’s brilliant vocals among of which there is a number of great collaborations with well known rappers.
LeToya – a successful solo effort of a real young diva
Stylistically the album LeToya is closer to hip-hop though it is not devoid of sensitive soul ballads and impressive vocal lines. The opening very short Intro prepares the listeners for the following hit U Got What I Need, a melodious slow song evoking the strongest feelings. So Special is has a nice rhythm, while the first single Torn is refined by the wonderful piano work and opens LeToya’s soul in a struggle before making a right choice. What Love Can Do is one of the songs on which LeToya’s vocals are revealed in alltheir power and sensuality, and the catchy tune is not so easy to forget. The playful track She Don't gives a broad hint at LeToya’s self-confidence for here she is persuading her boyfriend of her soleness. All Eyes On Me performed with Paul Wall is a danceable club track that is not going to leave anyone indifferent, and Hey Fella with Slim Thug shows that LeToya also possesses some boldness. One of the album’s standouts is the slow This Song with its passionate singing and romantic rhythm, and those who appreciate Torn will be pleased to find its remix at the end of the album. On the whole, LeToya is a successful solo effort of a real young diva.
Music perfect both for a party and a romantic evening
After all the difficulties within Destiny’s Child LeToya has forgotten all the offences and still has warm feelings towards former band’s members. Her soft character though has a number of features that let her remain independent and confident. Her first solo record is more than a collection of hip-hop and R&B songs, but her pass to the show business as a self-sufficient artist. It has been rather obvious that LeToya is strong on ballads, and that’s why the appearance of so many hip-hop songs is unexpected. Nevertheless, the young singer has coped with the task and proved that she can be both a diva and a hip-hop artist. She possesses vocals fresh enough to suit these styles and her irrefutable artistry helps her a lot. From the point of view of the lyrics the new album is filled with confidence of a young girl who knows exactly what she wants and always gets it. There is enough passion, tenderness and sensuality on LeToya. Probably it is not going to be a sensation, but undoubtedly, this is an enjoyable music and vocals, which cannot be underestimated. Some songs are perfectly suitable for a party other for a romantic evening – whenever you choose to listen to LeToya, it is sure to give you pleasure and help you relax.
