Awake review

Josh Groban remains faithful to his style

Twenty-five year old singer from Los Angeles Josh Groban is known worldwide for his outstanding baritone, that has helped him occupy an honorable place in the musc culture and won the hearts of a huge number of fans. Groban’s talent has been discovered in his young years when he performed at school theatre, and when he was 17, famous producer David Foster started involving him into various musical events. Later the artist signed a contract with Warner Bros. Records and in 2001 the debut album Josh Groban was released. The album went from gold to double-platinum and was followed by the 2003 sophomore effort Closer. This November the fans have finally got the long expected third creation Awake, produced again by David Foster. Evidently Josh Groban has developed the possibilities of his vocals and has given it more sensuality, but what makes Awake even more interesting is a variety of great collaborations with young talented artists. Among them there can be named Dave Matthews, Herbie Hancock, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Imogen Heap and some others. Remaining faithful to his style Josh Groban reaches all the new horizons and continues performing unforgetable music.

A deeply emotional album Awake

Wonderfully lyrical and deeply emotional, album Awake will give you the brightest moments of joy and the strongest feelings. The opener Mai immediately submerges the listeners into Groban’s amazing music and enraptures with his outstandingly powerful vocals. The first single You Are Loved (Don’t Give Up) finds Josh open his abilities to sing contrastingly his voice ranging from falsetto to a breathtaking baritone, while Spanish song Un Dia Llegara starts with guitars and takes us into Josh’s love world. Due to the combination of the singer’s vocals and the iridescent guitars the song deserves the name of the most romantic one on Awake. February Song again provides an opportunity to enjoy Groban’s falsetto and here the artist himself brings in a remarkable part on the keyboards. L’ultima Notte is an Italian masterpiece telling about the undesirable departure and the last night that is going to take place soon, while In Her Eyes is filled with a somewhat worried feel and is able to emotionalize the most hardhearted. Another Spanish ballad Solo Por Ti returns us to the gentle love confessions and delicate guitars and violins, whereas Un Giorno Per Noi (Romeo E Giulietta) is the theme to the 1968 film, a wonderful melody of which awakens the images of the young lovers at once. Track Weeping with Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Vusi Mahlasela is a brilliant collaboration of great performers, and the final composition Machine with Herbie Hancock ends the album on a more rhythmic note.

Josh Groban’s most personal record

Josh Groban is an artist that many stars wish to cooperate with, and he has been many times invited for taking part in recording the songs for the works of film and animated film making. The artist has participated in the creation of the soundtrack for Troy movie, for which he has performed song Remember Me with Tanja Tzarovska, and also has sung composition Believe for Robert Zemeckis’ animated film The Polar Express. Besides, he has become famous for his impressive live shows and has already managed to unleash two DVDs with these performances. There is no doubt he is a significant figure in show business, yet Groban is not solely interested in the commercial success, but also the life of people in other countries. For instance, he has brought song Weeping from South Africa where he met Nelson Mandela, and naturally has been to Italy more than once. His fan base constantly keeps growing and it gradually is shifting from an older to a younger generation. Multitalented Josh Groban plays piano, drums and sings in languauges other than English including Spanish and Italian. Album Awake has become his most personal and long expected record, that is sure to refine any collection of music.
