Undiscovered review

The style of Undiscovered varies from rock to soft soul ballads

This year the British team of soul singers has increased. James Morrison Catchpole born in Rugby, Warwickshire, England in 1984 and professionally known as James Morrison has released his debut album Undiscovered. Influenced by Al Green, Otis Redding, Cat Stevens and The Kinks, he has been playing guitar since the age of 13, but started to write songs only recently after years of playing other musicians’ creations. James got signed to Polydor Productions and was a supporting artist for Corinne Bailey Rae on her debut album tour. Undiscovered has already won the highest public acclaim for James Morrison’s deep soulful voice filling each song with a strong emotional coloring. The instrumental background emphasizes the power of his vocals to a great effect. Anonymous band helps James reveal all his talents drums giving a special rhythm to every song and violins prolonging the highest tones of the singer’s vocals. The style of Undiscovered varies from rock to soft soul ballads, and the tempo mostly does not exceed the mid one. The inspiring debut of James Morrison can serve a good example of a dream fulfilled.

James Morrison has a surprisingly wide range of voice

The 12 tracks of Undiscovered may seem too little to enjoy Morrison’s fresh manner of performance and a feel-good music. Rich piano parts refine the vivacious opener Under The Influence, and the melodious single You Give Me Something infects with strong emotions achieved with the help of James’ high tone vocals. He submerges into melancholy on Wonderful World, and here we witnesses a kind of contest between the instruments and vocals, especially at the end of the track, the keyboards hardly manage to maintain the same sounding as that of Morrison’s voice. Emotions seem ready to explode on the powerful track One Last Chance, interesting also for guitar parts and especially hearty lyrics. The jazzy keyboards on the title song Undiscovered make it a bit different from the rest of the album, but not as much as the following rock composition Call The Police. Here James Morrisons gives his voice full swing, the tempo increases and guitars gain a more insane sounding. The beautiful ballad If The Rain Must Fall contrasts with it and soon gives way to the loud beats of the expressive How Come. The final song The Last Goodbye leaves no doubt that James Morrison has a wonderfully wide range of voice and puts a full stop to the flow of emotions called Undiscovered.

All is just beginning for James Morrison

Satisfying the tastes of young people and middle-aged housewives as well as men who like melodious songs and passionate singing James Morrison’s debut is sure to become one of this summer’s best selling records. His songs suit perfectly for a romantic evening or a lonely rainy day and whenever you feel like submerging yourself into pleasant remeniscences of some past love or dream about coming relations. Rock songs can elate you when something’s going wrong and sentimental ballads help express the deepest warm feel. As a matter of fact, whichever mood you are having, Undiscovered is a fine refreshing record that can be a good choice for simply enjoying nice rhythm, voice and instruments. Being so young, James Morrison has already got the reputation of a superb live performer for he has begun performing as a teenager and has some experience of playing on public. After listening to Undiscovered one can say for sure that there are grand prospecrs ahead of this nugget and probably soon we are going something new and more mature from him. Now that Undiscovered is discovered, all is just beginning for James Morrison.
