I Apologize review

One of the most successful R&B artists of his period

Ginuwine was one of R&B's pre-eminent love men during the '90s heyday of hip-hop soul. Initially teamed with Timbaland, the most innovative producer of the late '90s, Ginuwine's sultry, seductive crooning earned him a substantial female following and made him a regular presence on the R&B charts, even after the futuristic production he favored was eclipsed by the more organic, retro-leaning neo-soul movement. Ginuwine was born in Washington, D.C., on October 15, 1975, with the unlikely name of Elgin Baylor Lumpkin. As a youngster, Lumpkin's interest in music was ignited by Prince and Michael Jackson. At the mere age of 12, he began performing at parties and bars with the local hip-hop group the Finesse Five. He later worked as a Michael Jackson impressionist and sang with another local outfit, Physical Wonder; in the meantime, he earned a paralegal degree from a local community college, in case music didn't work out. In 1996, he adopted the name Ginuwine and was discovered by Jodeci (the starting point for the careers of artists such as Missy Elliott, Timbaland). In New York, he met up with young producer Timbaland and cut the track Pony. With the strikingly inventive Timbaland behind the boards, Ginuwine cut his debut album, The Bachelor, and released it later in 1996. Ginuwine has released a number of platinum-selling albums and singles, becoming one of the most successful R&B artists of his period.

I Apologize attempts to set thinking everyone about our errors, rude words and immorality

The new Ginuwine’s album I Apologize is packed with equal doses of ballads and mid-tempos and allows listeners to peep his flavor. The beginning and the ending of I Apologize present the easy-tempered melodies, which are accompanied by the parting words of Ginuwine. There is no doubt that the heading hits on this record are the composition I Apologize and of the same name remix I Apologize (Remix). Ginuwine approaches to the recording of this hit very seriously and makes it very saturated, containing the main sense of the whole album in the phrase “I Apologize for all…”. Trying not only to give pleasure to the audience, Ginuwine attempts to set thinking everyone about their errors, rude words and immorality, which any person can make in the life, but sometimes forgets to apologize. Half of the songs such as Better Day, Say When are late-night seductions, while the other half are weepy, morning-after confessionals of infidelity, and never the twain should meet. After the impressive number of sexual and intimate R&B compositions, the record I Apologize begins “to move” in a quite quick, dance rhythm. What’s It Gunna Be, Twerk and Like Me help the listeners to distracted from the melancholy themes about love and enjoy the fiery music hits in the style of hip-hop from the heart. Few other R&B singers can create melody as well as Ginuwine, and his singing here is typically great, even if this disk covers very little new ground. I Apologize is a fascinating collection of the quality R&B music, sincere and logical words accompanied by the stunning vocal from Ginuwine.

Reserved and enigmatic Ginuwine

Being in the show business for a long time, Ginuwine never names himself the celebrity in the music world, moreover, he tries to avoid all these fashionable enthusiastic receptions, because of foolishness of these meetings. There is no one such a reserved person as Ginuwine. In his interviews, Ginuwine deliberately keeps the details of his biography from the journalists. About something, he just passes over in silence and some facts he decides never to receive publicity. Many of musical critics say, “it is his own charm”. But at the same time Ginuwine opens before the listeners’ eyes and moreover before his audience. The star biography of the singer is full of not only the successful platinum albums and bombastic duets with such a giants as Nas and P. Diddy, but also of really bright roles in different films (Juwanna Mann, Honey, The Videos) and TV shows (Martial Law, Moesha, platinum). The beginning of the 2007 was the next step for the mature and truly talented Ginuwine. His new work I Apologize can be named the new stage in the star career of gifted singer, musician and self-confident person.
