channel ORANGE review

Talented composer Frank Ocean

It happens that performers quite often work with so called ghostwriters, or shadow authors, which means that these very authors actually create music, however their names do not appear on covers at all. One of these shadow composers was Frank Ocean (full name Christopher Francis Ocean). And by the way, he did his job extremely well. Back in the year 2005 he moved from New Orleans to Los-Angeles after Hurricane Katrina did its destruction. It is not a secret that Los Angeles is a kind of a Mecca for artists, musicians and all sorts of creative and ingenious people. Due to his talent, Ocean managed to find the support of famous performers and even started to work with them. Well, judge by yourself: a young man has already collaborated with Brandy Norwood, Justin Bieber and even John Legend. It is quite an outstanding employment sheet for a twenty-four year old composer, isn’t it? Finally the time has come for Frank to make a serious step, which was so much expected by listeners. The performer has prepared his solo long play titled channel ORANGE. It became Frank’s debut, that is why it is so interesting to get acquainted with that album.

channel ORANGE: an hour of excellent music

The long-awaited release of channel ORANGE has finally taken place, and the record immediately appeared to be in the spotlight of contemporary rhythm and blues lovers. This genre is incredibly popular nowadays, which is actually a great thing: a bigger number of performers stands for the fact that the competition will be the way more serious. Frank’s creations have professional and confident sound, and it is really easy to make sure of it. Well, let’s push the play button… Listeners are greeted by an introductory song Start, which actually has an important role – it is the very first brick in the entire long play’s atmosphere. Then goes a full-length track called Thinkin Bout You, mid-tempo and quite calm. A fancy arrangement, not overloaded by extra and even useless elements, lets one listen to the lyrics carefully. Obviously, Ocean has something to share with his fans. Themes of unrequited love, people relationships and the eternal issue of money were skillfully mixed within the tracks of channel ORANGE, so it means that it is necessary to listen to the words, as soon as they are here not just for the sake of rhyming. Lovers of melodiousness songs will highly enjoy Fertilizer. This act is a great example of how the contemporary rhythm and blues may sound, because this music does not have to be only dance-floor targeted. Young Frank Ocean writes notably thoughtful texts, so nobody will be bored. Thereby both music and lyrics are worth respect, and every single time they make us forget that all the richness of melodies and themes had been created by a young performer. Meanwhile, this is Frank’s debut attempt, what is going to be next?

The first step is always the most important one

A career of any young artist is absolutely unpredictable, and thereby it is always very fascinating. One can only try to guess what the new performer has prepared for listeners and how persuasive his attitude will be. Well, Frank Ocean has already managed to establish a reputation of a true and mature professional. Collaborations with famous artists were definitely useful for him: experience is always priceless, indeed. In 2012 Frank Ocean demonstrated his solo attempt channel ORANGE, which has already become one of the most original rhythm-and-blues albums of that summer. Maybe it is channel ORANGE that will be able to remind listeners about the many-sidedness of that genre and about the fact that it is not limited by dance compositions only. Frank may be proud of his lyrics that are simply perfect addition to the concept of a whole album. In general channel ORANGE stands out of a huge number of albums of that genre, which is a good plus for Ocean. If you have a skeptical attitude to the modern rhythm and blues, then Frank Ocean may be a person who can change your mind.
