From Nothin' to Somethin' review

Fabolous collaborates with famous rappers

There is no doubt that the list of the best American emcees would be incomplete without the name of John Jackson professionally known as rapper Fabolous. His debut album Ghetto Fabolous became platinum and brought him the fame of a talented author of texts, not devoid of sense of humor. Besides Jackson was born and bred in Brooklyn and had great teachers. The last we heard from John Jackson professionally known as rapper Fabolous was his 2004 album Real Talk that got some contradictorary reviews. Three years have passes, and he's ready to submit to approval his fourth studio work From Nothin' To Somethin' which became the rapper's first album on Def Jam Records. Before listening to the record, just looking at the track list, one can make sure how impressive it promises to be: the absolute majority of songs have been recorded with the participation of a famous rapper. As for the content of From Nothin' To Somethin', it definitely deserves praise and due to flawless production and Fabolous' professional performance many hot tracks are sure to become summer hits.

Classic themes on From Nothin' To Somethin'

Unlike the previous albums, which have been rather personal, From Nothin' To Somethin' offers classic rap themes of relations with women, gangsta life and also some tracks devoted directly to Fabolous. Opening songs From Nothin' To Somethin' Intro and Yep, I'm Back, the only ones performed solely by Fabolous, are a great warm-up before composition Change Up featuring Akon. A memorable beat and interesting text allow both rappers declare themselves as much as they can, especially on chorus. Single Make Me Better featuring Ne-Yo is undoubtedly one of the albums' best songs, devoted to a certain girl Fabolous is fond of, and due to her he becomes better. Track Return Of The Hustle, performed with Swizz Beatz is perfect for any party, and a bit sullen Gangsta Don't Play featuring Junior Reid conquers with the text's simplicity and directness. Song First Time, performed with young R&B star Rihanna is especially for the female audience, whereas the first single Diamonds, featuring Young Jeezy, is going to be an absolute favorite for everybody no matter of what sex or age they are. Track What Should I Do, with Lil' Mo, is the most emotional moment on the record. It is devoted to the fans of Fabolous and their difficulties in life, the melodious chorus is the bets way to render the rapper's feelings, and final composition This Is Family (Bonus Track) featuring Ransom, Freck Billionaire, Red Cafe, Joe Budden and Paul Cain is a real apotheosis of collaborations.

Still sharp and original rhymes

There is a time in any rapper's career when one releases an album consisting almost totally of collaborations. For some it is their debut work when a beginning performer needs the support of experienced friends, for the others it is a way to check one's ability to work as part of a team and demonstrate that he or she is not worse than the associates. That is what Fabolous has done on From Nothin' To Somethin'. If anyone should blame the rapper for anything that would be the fact that he has left too few tracks for himself letting his colleagues perform the basic part of the record. Nevertheless it once again confirms that professional artists strive for collaborating with him. The same goes of producers: recording of From Nothin' To Somethin' could not occur without Timbaland, Swizz Beatz, Jermaine Dupri, Neo Da Matrix, The Runners, Just Blaze. With the support of those who know how to make a super hit the album is simply doomed to success. Fabolous' rap continues to evolve, and although he has not said anything new in his songs, his rhymes are still sharp and original. There is everything for a quality hip-hop album on From Nothin' To Somethin', so one can say for sure, that Fabolous fans will be pleased.
