Returning to the peak of Erasure's career
Vince Clarke and Andy Bell known as British synth pop duo Erasure began their way to the world fame over twenty years ago, and the career of the two has had its ups and downs during that time. If in the middle of the 1990s the keyboardist and the vocalist were among the most called for performers, and their albums such as Wild! and I Say! I Say! I Say! never left the tops of charts, Loveboat, the failure record of the beginning of the XXI century, seemed to symbolize the end of their success. The guys, however, were never going to give up. After 2003's cover collection Other People's Songs they released a majestic creation Nightbird two years later and acoustic album Union Street last year. Yet the fans have been expecting some new material, and this May they finally got it. Album Light At The End Of The World is returning to the peak of Erasure's career, red-blooded danceable beat, emotional texts and unforgettable melodies. Recorded in the genre's best traditions, it is definitely one of the best pop records this year and a brilliant prove of the duo's enormous potential.
Vivid and dynamic Light At The End Of The World
Coming back to basics has found reflection not only on the quality but on the quantity as well: the greatest part of the album's ten tracks last about three minutes, and only the final one, Glass Angel, gives a chance to enjoy the wonderful music just a little bit more. From the very first seconds Light At The End Of The World good old Erasure is easily recognized: Clarke is still able to make his synth produce most incredible sound combinations, and the power and sensuality of Bell's vocals never fail to impress. Naturally it is the singles that open the album – an infectious dance composition Sunday Girl and at I Could Fall In Love With You which one is sure to remember at once. Some songs like Sucker For Love or Golden Heart do not reveal all its nuances at first and require more than one listening, but in some time they are sure to become one's favorites. An outstanding example of Bell's talent as a lyricist is composition Storm In A Teacup, which many will consider a real masterpiece. Unlike the others it is not devoted to hardsghips of relations but to struggle against alcoholism. Another bright moment is undoubtedly track Darlene, on which the vocalist demonstrates the wide range of his voice licking all creation. Vivid and dynamic album Light At The End Of The World has surely comprised all the best of Erasure, and nobody will remain indifferent to it.
The best direction for Erasure
Probably to make sure that the effect of the most successful creations will be repeated the guys have invited producer Gareth Jones who worked on Wild! and Cowboy albums to take part in creating Light At The End Of The World and are not mistaken. It is an album that will make a lot of people nostalgic, and at the same time those who are not acquainted with Erasure's relatively early creative work will find something new for them. Although the summer is yet to come there are already ten hits ready for parties as one just cannot help wanting to dance listening to the record. The failure works have obviously only enhanced the duo's unity and made them realize what direction is the best for them. Light At The End Of The World is Erasure's thirteenth album and completely undermines the stereotype associations with its number. It gives a lot of pleasant minutes, surprises with unexpected special effects, and by the end of listening you will positively want to replay it. Judging by how the record charges with energy one can say for sure that this work is far from Erasure's last one and that soon it will manifest itself again.
