Ukulele Songs review

Eddie Vedder knows the sense in music

For millions of listeners Eddie Vedder’s name is first of all connected with the creativity of famous band Pearl Jam. And that totally makes sense, as soon as it is simply impossible to imagine Pearl Jam without their leader – the guitarist and vocalist Eddie Vedder made an outstanding contribution to the band’s development. However he also always had strength to take part in numerous side-projects, revealing his great potential. It seems that Vedder does not have any limits in musical sphere: he feels great on rock-stage, he is fond of participation in various projects and he is interested in soundtracks as well. It was the musical arrangement for the movie Into The Wild that became Eddie’s debut solo attempt and it saw the light in 2007. Vedder perfectly grasped the film’s meaning and wrote an incredibly atmospheric soundtrack, which got well-deserved attention from music connoisseurs and experts. Sound of Into The Wild differed a lot from Pearl Jam’s sound, so it really intrigued listeners. Thus, four years later, Vedder prepared a new solo record. Interesting? It is indeed.

Summer sound of Ukulele Songs

What is ukulele anyways? It is a four-string guitar, which is especially popular on Hawaii. As it is well known, it is always warm there, so Hawaii can be easily called islands of eternal summer. So the music there is also quite appropriate – it is warm and very summerish. Probably Eddie Vedder was so much imbued with Hawaii that he even decided to create the whole album in that summer direction. The musician chose his favorite songs in order to make interpretations and, of course, he wrote absolutely new compositions. Everything proved to be original and of high quality. The long play somehow wove Vedder’s own songs and interpretations of compositions that had become classical ones. Make sure not to miss More Than You Know, which saw the light back in 1929. Thus, due to Eddie and his guitar, that song found a new life. Once In A While, Dream A Little Dream Of Me – familiar tunes got absolutely new sound. However the bigger part of Ukulele Songs consists of Vedder’s sincere creativity. Melodious Satellite, positive You're True, beach sketch Waving Palms and many other songs will be loved by listeners, no doubt. Moreover, Ukulele Songs will make any party much better – smiles are guaranteed because that long play really disposes to pleasant past time.

Hawaiian mood

Not every single person can proudly say that he had been to islands of Hawaii. But Eddie Vedder made an awesome present to us all. For a certain period of time he left his traditional electric guitar and decided to experiment with quite an exotic musical instrument. Ukulele loved Eddie back – the duo of Vedder and a four-string little guitar exceeded all expectations. Incredibly atmospheric Ukulele Songs managed to surprise the artist’s fans, but it is always interesting to find and open something new, isn’t it? Who knows if an experiment with Hawaiian guitar turned out to be a totally new thing for Pearl Jam’s leader, but there is absolutely no doubt that music lovers will truly enjoy the summer record Ukulele Songs. By the way it is very symbolic that the long play’s release took place on the very last day of spring.
