Biography

American singer and songwriter Andwele Gardner, performing under the pseudonym Dwele, was born in Detroit in 1978. At the age of six he started playing the piano and later he studied how to play trumpet, bass and guitar. When Dwele was ten years old, his father was shot in the street and the musician started to put his emotions into the creativity. Thus the music became his therapy and helped him to overcome the tragedy. Dwele stated that music of Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Miles Davis and others had influenced him a lot, and after he got acquainted with A Tribe Called Quest music, the singer decided to become an MC. Later he made the demo record The Rize and managed to sell about one hundred of its copies within a weak. The young musician was noticed and soon after that he performed alongside with Bahamadia and Slum Village. Dwele’s talent was highly appreciated and the musician signed the contract with Virgin Records.

Dwele’s debut record titled Subject was released in 2003 and it got fair reviews from the musical experts. That album had an interesting sound, including elements of hip-hop and neo-soul. Soon after that release Dwele went on a tour in Europe and USA, where he performed at different festivals, among which was the famous Jazz festival in Toronto. There he had a chance to perform at one stage with Roy Ayers, one of his favorite musicians. Together they sang the famous jazzman’s composition Everybody Loves The Sunshine. Dwele’s second studio work Some Kinda.... was issued in 2005. The singer had never limited himself by keeping on creating in one style, and thus he managed to establish his own unique way of music creation. Some Kinda.... presented interesting songs, among which was the jazz-oriented song Wake The Baby. It had been recorded jointly with a talented saxophonist Boney James. In 2008 Dwele released his third album Sketches Of A Man that included twenty very strong tracks. That record was well received both by the musician’s fans and by the musical experts.

In 2010 the fourth Dwele’s album W.ants W.orld W.omen was released. Traditionally that record got the unique and versatile sound that attracted attention in no time. While creating W.ants W.orld W.omen Dwele collaborated with many various artists, including his old friends – rap band Slum Village. There is absolutely no doubt that W.ants W.orld W.omen will be enjoyed by all the good music lovers, and the singer’s old fans will be pleased by the Dwele’s unique style.
