One Love
Compilation by David Guetta released in 2009One Love review
One of the world’s most successful and wanted DJs
The French DJ and producer David Guetta needs no presentation since the beginning of the new millennium although he was well known only in his Motherland before that. Generously sharing with the audience his energy and happiness which good quality dance music can bring David became famous all over the world only after the release of his studio recordings. Naturally the true fans of the genre had heard of him long before that – his sets were among the most successful and wanted by the club goers in Ibiza. Fortunately for many others, there is no need to go that far anymore to enjoy Guetta’s contagious beats and melodies. Thank to his striving for getting the music to the masses, his main hits can be found on the marvelous albums: 2003’s Fuck Me I’m Famous, 2004’s Just A Little More Love and Guetta Bluster, 2007’s Pop Life and this year’s new release One Love. The latter is quite an anticipated one taking into account the success of the two previous records. Thus, David Guetta has once again satisfied the most sophisticated taste and provided us with great dance tracks at least for a year ahead.
Trademark house beats and successful vocal parts on One Love
David is known not only for his recognizable trademark house beats and electronic hooks in the dance circles, but also for the very successful vocal parts often present in his songs. Of course the French’s fourth creation is not an exception in this respect – each track is recorded together with some famous performers, many of which are working with Guetta not for the first time. The album opens with the first single When Love Takes Over featuring Kelly Rowland with whom David obviously enjoys working – there are three tracks recorded with the singer on One Love. Certainly is you have listened to the radio this month you have surely heard the memorable sing-along motif of When Love Takes Over. It is followed by the song Gettin' Over pleasing with the recognizable vocals of Chris Willis – no DJ’s record can do without him. Akon’s soft vocals refine the composition Sexy Bitch with quite bold and frank lyrics, while the main characters on the number On The Dancefloor are Will.I.Am and Apl De Ap. Two other contagious songs It's The Way You Love Me and Choose (also featuring Ne-Yo) once again please with memorbale chorus, whereas one of the best house-tracks on the record is How Soon Is Now (Dirty South), refined with Julie McKnight’s vocals. A pleasant surprise for Akon’s fans here is I Gotta Feeling (FMIF Remix). No doubt, the title song One Love, performed with the splendid Estelle is going to become the album’s hit due to the emotional performance and soulful lyrics. One should also pay attention to the songs Sound Of Letting Go (with Chris Willis’ vocals) and an electro-trance-esque Toyfriend (the female vocals performed by Wynter Gordon) – one just cannot sit still listening to them.
David Guetta remains faithful to himself
David realized his true vocation wonderfully early – he pleased his friends with original remixes already at school and was a wanted guest at any party. At the age of 17 Guetta became the resident of one of Paris’ best night clubs, but the world fame came to him only after he was 35 years old. Another question is that the DJ himself never aimed at commercial success but he was always glad when the number of his fans increased, when more and more people enjoyed his music. As for One Love, David can be sure that it is going to attract new fans from all over the world to him as the album contains more than one hit. We can hardly speak of any new sound or original approach here – Guetta remains faithful to himself – nevertheless, the memorable tunes and vivid emotions add freshness and energy to these songs, and what else do you need for a successful club hit? Although there is a couple of songs on One Love without which the album would not lose much, this great dance collection is perfect for getting acquainted with David Guetta’s creative work and will surely be appreciated by all who is fond of it for a long time.
