Trust Me review

A great continuation of Craig David's successful career

The fourth album of the British R&B performer Craig David has made us wait for it for two years becoming the follow-p to a the highly acclaimed record The Story Goes… During that time the singer has gained even more of personal experience, has been to Cuba where he got expired by the new Cuban music and is now ready to share it with every one who wants on his new creation Trust Me. The album has been recorded in Havana and once again produced by Martin Terefe, who has worked with KT Tunstall and James Morrison and Fraser T. Smith (Beyonce, Jamelia and many others). Speaking about the basic topics on Trust Me, it would be wrong to state that Craig David has decided to change his favorite questions of relationship and entertainment for something else. Yet there are songs on the new record on which the singer is presented as a person possessing deep understanding of life, capable of giving valuable advice to anyone who has lost faith in oneself. As always, Craig David has written a bunch of hits with catchy melodies and nice arrangements that have served a great continuation of his successful career.

All sides of Craig David's personality on Trust Me

The album opens with single Hot Stuff (Let's Dance) based on David Bowie's hit Let's Dance, a great disco composition that has obtained a lot due to Craig's interesting lyrics and confident stylish performance. Friday Night is a mid-tempo composition quite danceable refined with Craig's great vocals with falsetto elements and a disco flavored beat. One of the album's highlights and a track different from the rest of the material is Awkward performed with a newly discovered singer Rita Ora. A complicated melody makes the song a real challenge for a vocalist, but David has proved to be a wonderful professional and carries the song out perfectly well. Just A Reminder is a calm track with the influence of Cuban music clearly traced, that makes it danceable and relaxing at the same time. A guitar accompanied with a pleasant R&B beat Officially Yours pleases with a catchy chorus, whereas romantic Kinda Girl For Me reminds of Jennifer Lopez's R&B songs a bit, especially when David sings in falsetto. A sultry track She's On Fire reminds us that its author and performer is first of all a man having a soft spot for the opposite sex, but the lofty Top Of The Hill featuring a lower register of the singer's voice proves that his interests are much wider – he inspires us not to give up and believe that it is always worth fighting for more. Nevertheless, the album closes with another easy-going composition This Is The Girl proving than nothing human is alien to Craig David, opening all the sides of the singer's personality.

A many faceted and interesting high-quality album

One can talk endlessly about one of the best urban R&B performer, and as he is no doubt one of the brightest and really talented young men. At his age of twenty six he clearly understands that it is not worth while making his creations full of fillers, selecting only the best. That is why the 11 tracks of Trust Me are an example of pop and R&B music as Craig David sees it and each of them deserves praise. His vocals never ceases pleasing with either sensuality or boldness, giving a certain mood to compositions due to which many of them are simply destined to become hits. The record is sure to attract new fans to David, especially those female for this lady killer of an artist knows as nobody else how to seduce a girl and leave the most pleasant reminiscences of oneself. In their turn the guys can find a couple of hooks to adopt. The singer has also pleased a more serious listener as well as an older generation using the song of David Bowie. Thus Trust Me is a many faceted, quality and interesting album that can be rightfully called one of the year's best pop releases and for sure the best work of handsome Craig David so far.
