The most eccentric sixth season American Idol participator

Blake Lewis was born and brought up in Washington, USA. Being at school, he took an active part in all events, starred in musicals and participated in different state sport competitions. At age 17, he started beatboxing, playing the guitar and percussions at the same time. In 1998, Lewis finished the school and became a member of hip-hop band KickShow. As a part of this command, he recorded one album, though in 2002, he decided to start a solo career and left. Surely, in the world of today's show business it was difficult to get to the top - there were too many eager to do it. Nevertheless, Lewis did not give up and he got a real chance to demonstrate his talent in all its power during the audition for the sixth season of the American Idol. Lewis astonished all the judges with the brave interpretations of famous hits, while his sparkling beatboxing mini- concert put an end to the last doubts in his future success, if there were any. During all the season, the artist was a constant follow-up to the fascinating Jordin Sparks, but he was called the most eccentric performer of the show unanimously. However, rivalry did not stop Jordin and Blake from becoming friends. After the American Idol was over, Lewis immediately got down to recording his first studio album, working with many celebrated producers. The Audio Daydream album was recorded in Lewis' manner to make one surprise after the other.

A surprisingly many-sided work

This young performer can be called without doubt the jack-of-all-trades - Audio Daydream has hip-hop numbers, slow love songs, fashionable pop-rock compositions… Lewis did not forget about a couple of club R&B tracks, obligatory today for any popular release. It should be taken into consideration that all these kinds of songs sound naturally and harmonically in Lewis' performance. Playful Gots To Get Her and dramatic Hate 2 Love Her can be called perfect up-tempo melodies, having the fascination and charm of Maroon 5 repertoire - one of the most admired by the musician. How Many Words and Here's My Hello are brilliant dancing compositions with winding choruses that remind of Depeche Mode's electronics in 80s, though in How Many Words Lewis beatboxes, which makes the track sound very peculiar. Whatcha Got 2 Lose could be written by Prince himself - according to its dynamics, while She's Makin' Me Lose It and autobiographic Bshorty Grabs Mic (Bshorty is one of Blake's nicknames) became wonderful hip-hop compositions. Lewis did not forget about the lyrical song genre. Despite of some kind limited range his voice sounds impressing and thrilling on tracks Without You and I Got U. Having listened to them even once anyone would understand why Blake was mentioned in the lists of the hottest guys and bachelors in People and Elle magazines.

Blake Lewis: jack-of-all-trades

It is simply astonishing, how Lewis manages to do all he tries himself at - from beatboxing to songwriting, as Blake participated in creation of the majority of tracks for the Audio Daydream album. He personally worked out the conception of the future disc and made the songs sound in the stylistics of 80s. There is no way to blind musical trend following - Blake recorded a disc that features his bright identity and personal tastes. This fact differs him from many turned out mechanically pop-idols of nowadays - all alike and unable to make a mere step without the manager and a collective of songwriters and producers. It can be stated firmly that Audio Daydream is almost overall the personal achievement by Lewis as even the producers, who helped him in the work, the singer invited himself. Surely, not all the well-known producers with whom Blake would like to work took part in the record. Nevertheless, according to the success of Audio Daydream and personal Lewis' ambitions the talented experimentation connoisseur will be able to afford such collaborations soon.
