Birdy makes her first steps in the musical industry

The English singer Birdy (real name Jasmine Van den Bogaerde) made herself a name quite recently: in 2008 she won the major musical contest called Open Mic UK, and back then the young artist was only twelve years old! However Birdy has been inseparable with the music since the very childhood. The point is that her mother is a professional pianist, so that is why the young singer started to learn to play the piano when she was six and she began songwriting when she was seven. There is no doubt that at this age children learn anything new, especially if it is really interesting for them. It seems that Birdy simply fell in love with the music, as soon as she has been constantly mastering her skills ever since. Thus, the young musician decided to take part in the famous Open Mic UK. She presented her own song called So Be Free, and she performed it in front of a huge audience of two thousand people. Birdy’s confident performance helped her to impress everyone with her immediateness and talent, and as the result Jasmine was ahead of all her competitors and moreover, she won the main prize of a contest. Of course, it was simply impossible to ignore the promising singer, so pretty soon after winning at Open Mic UK Birdy was offered a contract with a sound recording label. That was an amazing chance, and Jasmine took it.

The debut work Birdy – professional approach

How often do the fifteen years old performers record and release their albums? Probably, that does not happen too often, right? And this is another reason why Birdy’s self-titled long play attracted so much attention of listeners. The record’s opening act is an incredibly atmospheric composition 1901, which demonstrates Jasmine’s outstanding vocals. The arrangement in soft-rock style is a perfect addition to the singer’s voice and it lets enjoying it properly, without abstracting from her part. 1901 is followed by heartfelt song Skinny Love, where a listener will find a real harmony between piano’s soft sound and Birdy’s beautiful voice. That composition tells us about love, however that track is not the only one, which is dedicated to that tender feeling: Terrible Love continues the theme of lyrics and feelings. It is worth mentioning that in general Birdy succeeds not only with ballads, but with more energetic compositions, such as White Winter Hymnal or Young Blood. But if the young artist decided to share her thoughts about love – then be sure that this would be an amazingly beautiful ballad.

Excellent beginning of a professional career

So, the release of Birdy’s very first studio attempt took place, and now it can be stated that her record turned out to be really good. The singer proved to listeners that she loves music with her whole heart. Actually, that could not be questioned, after all – these songs just could not be performed by a person, who is neutral to the creativity. Birdy's compositions do not even remind of childish songs: a grown-up, beautiful music and quite serious texts will hardly give a reason to think that the author or a performer is a person who is just fifteen yeas old. The album Birdy is definitely a conscious and professional one, eve in spite of the fact that it is Jasmine’s very first step in a professional career. There is no doubt that the great future is waiting for that young and promising singer, and Birdy will please her fans (she will have a lot of faithful fans, that is for sure) many times with the new hits. An extremely successful mix of indie-rock, beautiful melodies and touching vocals will not be left without a well-deserved attention.
