LateNightTales, Vol. 2
Compilation by Belle and Sebastian released in 2012LateNightTales, Vol. 2 review
Belle and Sebastian – a band with history
There are a great number of bands all over the world that play totally different music. Some artists prefer to follow the canons of this or that genre, while others give their creativity absolute freedom. This way or another, the final result depends on musicians’ talent. Of course, the commitment to excellence plays an important role as well, and the wonderful band Belle and Sebastian seems to have all the strong sides. Thus, from the very first moments of its formation that distinctive band took a course for the sincere and original music, which absorbed charm and magic of several genres at once. Thus, Belle and Sebastian managed to mix freedom-oriented indie-rock and baroque pop, which is rather rare and that is why it is always very interesting for listeners. That kind of mix helped the group to find its place in the sun in quite a short period of time. The debut long play titled Tigermilk saw the light in 1996 and it got the Gold status – an impressive result for the young band indeed. The musicians were full of desire to create, so the same year the release of another album took place - If You’re Feeling Sinister. Well, Belle and Sebastian did not disappoint their fans this time too. Actually, all the following records satisfied music lovers’ expectations, which is quite logical: the group found its style and it kept on performing its easy recognizable and distinctive music with a great pleasure.
Magnifical compilation
The latest for the moment album of Belle and Sebastian saw the light in 2010, while the band's fans were pleased with a compilation record back in 2008. Sure thing that listeners had been looking for something new from their favorite artists for quite a period of time. Thus, in 2012 the release of an impressive compilation album LateNightTales, Vol. 2 took place. Its length almost made up an hour and a half, so it is possible to imagine the abundance of the playlist. The record is opened by a track Ominous Cloud, mid-tempo and very melodiousness. That song plays its role of an introductory song just fine, preparing listeners for the wave of Belle and Sebastian's marvelous music. Sometimes it feels that the band's creativity has come from the far seventies or eighties of the previous century: vintage sound and inexpressible atmosphere of good old rock are definitely the strong sides of Belle and Sebastian. Add the unique sound, which is created with the help of violin, trumpet and other instruments that are not so popular among many bands. The Scottish performers have an outstanding musical taste and intuition that had never let them down. LateNightTales, Vol. 2 did not become an exception - the choice of songs proved to be successful indeed, with fascinating changes of moods and tempos.
Scottish rock at its finest
Rock music is very many-sided, and everyone can interpret it in any possible way. That is what attracts musicians from all over the world, and that is why listeners can always find something new and attention-catching. If you are interested in indie-rock in particular and in original music that does not follow canons of some certain genre in general, then the creativity of Belle and Sebastian will be a great source of joy for you. The point is that this band does not have a main aim to achieve a commercial success. The musicians are given to the creativity first of all, so the result is quite proportional. Their fans made sure a long time ago that Belle and Sebastian are honest with themselves, which means that they are also honest with listeners. And there are simply no reasons to assume that the situation will change. LateNightTales, Vol. 2 proved to be a truly worthy addition to the band's impressive discography. There is no doubt that the compilation will help to relieve the wait for Belle and Sebastian's brand new studio work, and for many people LateNightTales, Vol. 2 will become a great guide to the Scottish musicians' world of creativity.
