Let the Blind Lead Those Who Can See but Cannot Feel review

Bradford James Cox's solo project Atlas Sound

When Bradford James Cox famous for his ambient music made a solo project Atlas Sound he was first of all eager to realize his new ideas that he failed to fulfill with his Atlanta band Deerhunter. The band continuing its existence and the musician has finally expressed what he wanted in his new album that he called Let The Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel. A creative personality in every way Cox tells of his personal feelings on the new record as usually frankly revealing his weak points to the audience, and shares his thoughts on the questions he finds interesting. One of the main topics on Let The Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel is that of the relationship between Bradford and his best friend Lockett Pundt, Deerhunter guitarist who plays an important part in the musician's life. Unusual and strange the album will occupy a special place in your music collection and please with brilliant metaphoric lyrics and amazingly beautiful songs.

A mystic voyage Let The Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel

The fourteen tracks of the album lasting approximately fifty minutes will make you forget about reality and take into the mysterious world of Mr. Cox. Such songs as the opener A Ghost Story, built around a music sample with a boy telling a ghost story the singer found moving and accompanied with hammer dulcimers, or River Card, based on the Puerto Rican interpretation of Narcissus' story, are the most innocent tracks here for they just present what can interest the musician and how he would present it to the listeners. His first confession is on Recent Bedroom, the song about how his aunt passed away and he could not cry which made him suffer quite some time. Once Cox came across a Russian article about kids having AIDS which made him write Quarantined, for he has spent a lot of time in hospitals when a child and thinks them strange places. Winter Vacation tells of the day Cox first met his best friend Locket, and he tried to express all the emotions he felt then in the unusual music. This very friend wrote the guitar party on Cold As Ice, devoted to a girl that Bradford liked when a teenager, and on Scraping Past he sings of the importance of having friends who continue your life with you. Instrumental compositions Ready, Set, Glow and After Class are both interesting and leave nobody indifferent, and on song Ativan (name of a drug) Cox explores his addiction to this drug and compares it to his friendship. The album closes with the title track which once again has no lyrics offering pure emotions and ending this mystic voyage around the boundless expanses of ambient music.

Music that envelopes and causes most contradictory feelings

Even without knowing the contents of the compositions on Let The Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel none of them can be called a filter for the whole album is perceived an integral organism possessing its own conscious. For Bradford the songs themselves are the means rendering the feelings and he expresses the strongest and most influential emotions in his life. Noises of unclear origin, sharp beat contrasting with a plangent melody or on the contrary placatory serenity is only a small part of what Atlas Sound's music presents in itself. Cox's vocals are not that notable throughout the record the main stake being made on the impact given by the music on the whole that is achieved by unexpected combinations of guitars, synthesizers and various audio effects against the background of changing beats. Atlas Sound's new music envelopes and causes most contradictory feelings as there is always the extraordinary personality of its creator in the centre. His each creation becomes a masterpiece in its way, and to all who is ready to open to the new and unexplored this unearthly music will give a multitude of unforgettable experiences.
