Seven Rainbows review

Alice Gold is definitely going to be a success and world famous

Alice Gold is a new face on the British music scene, who has first drawn attention to herself with her debut single Orbiter last September. Today the artist hailing from London is twenty-eight years old, and she is confidently going forward releasing the second single Runaway Love is April, and this summer her debut album Seven Rainbows. This record is one of the most interesting releases this year not only due to the great song variety, all with vivid memorable tunes and interesting lyrics, but, most of all, due to the singer’s vocals. Alice Gold manages her voice in a very artful way making it sound quietly and soft at some moments, at times it seems to belong to a punk band singer and sometimes it is perfect for performing rock ballads. That is why the album Seven Rainbows, undoubtedly, is one of the most promising debuts of this year, and the singer is definitely going to be a success and world famous. The album was produced by Dan Carey who has worked with such bands as Franz Ferdinand and Hot Chip as well as the singer Lily Allen, and he has done his best to make the listeners remember Alice Gold at once and forever, and to make Seven Rainbows one of his best creations.

Various stylistic accents on Seven Rainbows

The album consists of ten tracks each of which is based on this or that stylistic accent for Alice Gold herself is interested in a variety of genres (she enjoys the works of both Janis Joplin and Alicia Keys), though she considers herself a songwriter creating pop compositions. The album opens with one of the most beautiful and complicated songs Seasons Change with a philosophic implications, a passionate chorus and an excellent bass line which is going to stand out on other tracks to follow, too, such as on the single Runaway Love. This composition helps one to make sure that Alice can sing and render in her voice all the power of her feelings, her gentleness and vulnerability. The same can be said about another single Cry Cry Cry, which perhaps reminds of Lily Allen’s works most of all with its immediateness and lightness, the matter definitely having to do with the production. Yet you would be wrong to think that the following numbers are going to be more or less the same. For example, the track How Long Can These Streets Be Empty?, the longest one on the record, lasting over five minutes, is carried out in completely different tones. It is the most sullen and heaviest composition on the album, on which the singer has expressed her love of rock and soul. As for the first single Orbiter, it tells a witty love story based on space metaphors and conquers with a very catchy chorus, the musicians’ faultless work and once again Ms Gold’s wonderfully delicious vocals. The mixture of soul and blues on Conversations Of Love is even more interesting, and the album closer is one of the most memorable songs End Of The World, on which the vivid pop-melody with high notes on chorus and a retro arrangement are harmoniously combined.

Beauty and harmony

The artist prepared her debut album’s material in no time without being signed to any label yet. Alice Gold had been trying to contact Dan Carey with her new songs and practically with no money for quite some time as she was well acquainted with his works and believed that he could help her realize her hopes and dreams. Indeed, as soon as he heard draft variants of some Alice’s songs he immediately came up with bass lines for them, and that was the moment when the singer knew she had made a right choice of producer. One of the main of Carey’s achievements is his ability to underline the vocalist’s voice strong points, whether they are high notes or very quiet moments – all result in beauty and harmony. Thus, when the single Orbiter was released by Pure Groove Records, other labels started a competition to work with Alice Gold, and that was a sign of her future success. The album Seven Rainbows was recorded only in three weeks but its variety and faultless sounding really deserve praise. Hopefully she is not going to prove a one album artist, and her debut will soon be followed by no less impressive works.
