U2 and British artist Damien Hirst organaised charitable auction to raise money for AIDS relief. It was held on February 14 in New York and brought in $42 million.

17 artists gave their paintings for the auction. Hirst donated seven pieces, including a picture showing cabinet filled with drugs to treat HIV, which garnered $7.15 million. «I'm never going to be cynical ever again», said Hirst. «We've helped change the world a little bit».
