The Guardian magazine placed Thom Yorke at number 63 in special Media Top 100 chart for Radiohead's In Rainbows pay-what-you-like strategy, naming him one of the most influential people in music.

The magazine described Radiohead's decision as «pioneering example of the new business model in today's digital landscape, with creatives cutting out the middleman - in Radiohead's case, their old record label EMI».

The Guardian also pointed that the band was followed by Nine Inch Nails, who gave their album The Slip for free, and Coldplay, who also made their single Violet Hill available as a free download.
