NEWS08.09.2010 The XX have won Mercury Prize 2010 British indie rockers The XX have become the winner's of this year's Mercury Prize. The band was awarded for its debut album XX which hit the stores in August 2009. The list of nominees also included such artists as Paul Weller, Wild Beasts, Biffy Clyro, Foals and Dizzee Rascal.
The XX singer Oliver Sim said: "We've had the most incredible year and it's just felt like every day we've woken up to something incredible that we just weren't expecting". Mercury Prize is an annual music prize awarded for the best album from the United Kingdom or Ireland. It has a reputation for being awarded to outside chances rather than the favorites. However, it is often observed that bands who are nominated for, or win the prize, experience a large increase in album sales.
