The Smiths members denied reunion rumors

The Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr denied reports that the band is going to reunite this year. According to his words, they have discussed this idea with frontman Morrissey, but did not make any decision.

"The rumor of The Smiths reunion is untrue. It's not happening", said Marr.

The band's drummer Mike Joyce backed his words: "When I first heard about it I was… to say surprised and rather shocked was a bit of an understatement. Obviously I had to keep my emotions in check because there's a lot of people in the office. It's not happening folks, as far as I know – which could be a good thing".

Earlier Johnny Marr claimed that he would reform The Smiths – but only if current UK government steps down.

Morrissey and Johnny Marr formed The Smiths in Manchester in 1982. Critics have called them one of the most important alternative rock bands to emerge from the British music scene of the 1980s. The band released four albums – The Smiths (1984), Meat Is Murder (1985), The Queen Is Dead (1986), Strangeways, Here We Come (1987) – and was demised in 1987.
