South-American musician claims Gorillaz have copied his song

Famous reggae musician Eddy Grant claimed that Gorillaz’s new single Stylo had «substantive similarities» with his 1983 song Time Warp. According to the singer, the keyboard section on Stylo is absolutely similar to the one on his track.

Grant also claimed that Damon Albarn, the creator of Gorillaz, was aware that his track copies another song. «Damon Albarn knows in his heart of hearts, he knows that this is a song that he's loved, in his club days…I don't know the guy…but he knows this is a song he loves», claimed he.

Eddy Grant added that his has consulted lawyers and may start a legal action against the creator of Gorillaz.

Ironically, both artists are signed to the same record label – EMI. «In a properly configured relationship I would have gotten a call from EMI to say «Damon wants to use Time Warp». That phone call never came», said Grant.

Stylo is the first single from Gorillaz’s recently released album Plastic Beach.
