R.E.M. to release best hits compilation as a "farewell"

R.E.M. – who have recently announced their split-up – unveiled plans to release best hits compilation. Titled Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage: 1982 – 2011, it is set to hit the stores this month. It will feature songs representing the bands entire career, from their breakthrough singles Losing My Religion and Shiny Happy People to the most recent songs.

The album will also include several new tracks.

According to R.E.M. members, they were working on Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage: 1982 – 2011 just before announcing split up to use the album as a "farewell" to the fans.

This Wednesday, September 21, members of R.E.M. announced that they have made a decision to split up after 31 years of active music career. Official statement by musicians says that they still remain good friends, and also talks about "deepest thanks" to the band's fans.

R.E.M. formed in Athens, Georgia in 1980. They are considered to be one of the most influential rock bands of 80's and 90's. During their career, musicians released 15 albums, starting from their debut record Murmur to Collapse Into Now that hit the stores earlier this year.
