Portishead have difficulties recording new album

Portishead’s Geoff Barrow claimed that the band has faced the creative difficulties while working on the new album. According to the musician, it turned out to be very hard for him and his bandmates to find a right direction for their work.

«We didn't want to repeat ourselves but it was really difficult sometimes. If you want to do something different, you really can't because it doesn't sound like you; so when you don't sound like what you like about yourself, you end up writing stuff that you hate», said he.

Upcoming record will become Portishead’s fourth studio album. Dummy and Portishead were released before the band’s split up in 1999, while Third hit the stores after Portishead’s reunion in April 2008.

Barrow explained why it took the band nine years to record new album: «It's just that I gave up music for five years, so the album Third only took about four years in total. I don't rate myself that highly – but when you come up with something that you are finally happy with, it's ok».
