PJ Harvey wins Barclaycard Mercury Prize
Sep 09, 2011PJ Harvey herself – who is now the only musician who has won Barclaycard Mercury Prize for two times – said: "First of all I'd like to say thank you very much for this award, and the recognition of my work on this album. It took me a long time write. It was very important to me, I wanted to make something that was meaningful not just for myself but for other people, hopefully to make something that would last".
The ceremony was held on yesterday night, September 6, at the Grosvenor Hotel in London. For the first time in history it was set to feature performances by all nominees, but Adele has pulled out due to chest infection.
Mercury Music Prize is an annual award given for the best album recorded by artist from United Kingdom and Ireland. The winner is determined by a selected panel of musicians, critics and other members of the industry. Mercury Music Prize is usually regarded as an honor for the non-mainstream performers.
