NEWS22.05.2008 British rock band Pink Floyd and U.S. opera singer Renee Fleming were named the winners of the 2008 Polar Music Prize. It is Sweden's biggest music award. It was founded by Stig Anderson, manager of Swedish pop group ABBA, in 1989.
Pink Floyd and Fleming were chosen for their contributions to their respective musical genres, with the prize committee cited Fleming's «sublime, unparalleled voice and unique stylistic versatility». The band and the opera singer will each receive a cash prize of 1 million kronor (about $160,000) at an award ceremony in Stockholm on August 26.
