Pink Floyd have won a legal battle against EMI

Pink Floyd have won their court battle against EMI Group. The band filled a lawsuit last week, claiming that record label can not sell its tracks through the Web. Pink Floyd applied to the contract, signed with EMI in 1998 – it says that their songs are not allowed to be sold individually without the band’s permission.

EMI Group claimed that the contract option has no relation to online sales, because music services, which allow downloading tracks from the Web, were launched later. However, British High Court made a decision in favor of Pink Floyd.

It also ordered EMI to pay Pink Floyd £40,000 as court costs – with the total fine to be considered later.

Pink Floyd signed their first deal with EMI in 1967. The band released its most notable albums through this label, such as The Dark Side Of The Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977), The Wall (1979) and others.
